Empowering Voices of Kids with Disabilities

In this webinar, we hear from a young advocate who will share about empowering kids and how communities can be more supportive and inclusive. The webinar will discuss creating spaces to connect with others so that kids can learn more about their rights and feel safer and more confident in expressing themselves.

Chase Arcangel

Chase Arcangel is an autistic youth advocate and a proud Long Beach resident attending the 5th grade. He is currently learning about entrepreneurship and is the founder & director of Chase After Learning (CAL), which encourages self-expression to empower neurodivergent youth to find community, increase self-awareness, develop communication skills for self-advocacy, and promote inclusive ways of learning. He loves to play video games, create art, learn different subjects, and spend time with his mom. Chase also loves to eat Asian foods like ramen, chicken adobo, and banh mi. When he grows up, he’d like to be a scientist or engineer.

Joana Arcangel
 
Joana Arcangel (she/her) is a parent, writer, peer supporter, consultant, and disability rights advocate. She values finding ways to explore and honor neurodiversity, creativity, meaningful connections, and resiliency. Her career journey includes having led a peer-run respite home in California called Hacienda of Hope where she worked from 2015 to 2020. She has also worked within a transitional age youth (TAY) peer program at Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) that focused on career & education exploration and financial literacy. She is a Community Resiliency Model (CRM)® Certified Teacher and Master Facilitator of Core Gift Discovery.
