Ask The President, Part II - June 24 after Davening
As I keep telling people, these are exciting times at Arzei Darom, with many, many projects underway.
In the last week or so, I have received a couple of emails about and had a couple of people ask me about the chair fund and the ad hoc house committee.
As I said previously, from the Board's perspective, it is important that everyone, and we mean everyone - full members, associate members, or those families who are not yet member (but will be someday) - feel a part of this process and know and understand what decisions are being made by the Board and how.
The recent communications, however, suggest that we still have a ways to go in terms of making sure everyone understands exactly what we are doing, and how we reached those decisions.
So, once again, this Shabbat, I am going to hold an open question and answer session in the main sanctuary, starting fifteen minutes after the Kiddush begins. No question about the shul OR what happened at any Board meeting is off limits, and I will try to provide as much information as I can. And whether it is 1 person or 100 people, I will stay as long as it takes to respond to everyone's questions.

New Chair Fund
As you hopefully know by now, the Board has selected a new chair for the main sanctuary to replace the existing metal folding chairs.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be reaching out to each family in our community, and asking them to contribute to the shul to help cover the cost of the new chairs.
Each chair will cost us approximately $180, and we are hoping to raise approximately $40,000 to cover the cost for all of the chairs.
Therefore, we are asking each family to contribute $360, to cover the cost of two chairs.
We realize that for some families, this amount will be too much, and we will gladly accept whatever you can afford to contribute.
We are equally hopeful, and strongly encourage, those families that are able to contribute more than $360, to do so.
We are not going to be placing any names on the donated chairs, but we will find a way to acknowledge all those families who contribute to the effort.
A picture of the proposed new chair can be found here:
http://www.sauderworship.com/images/products/chairs-tables/vantage/Vantage-chair-partial-padded-back.jpg.
Please note, there are three differences between the chair in the picture, and the chair we will be purchasing: (a) the wood stain is likely to be different; (b) the color of the fabric will be different; and (c) our chairs will have a metal rack, where you can place siddurim, chumashim, etc.
The Board is also in the process of exploring potentially purchasing the house next door.
If the Board approves (and the Congregation approves at a Special Meeting) the purchase of the house, we will be asking each member of our community to financially support that effort as well.
If you have any questions, or if you wish to contribute to the chair fund, please use
this form.

Crock Pot Kiddushes - Looking for
Volunteers
We are underway planning the calendar for hot kiddushes. The Crock Pot Kiddush has been a very enjoyable experience over the years. Our shul has been fortunate over the years to have members volunteer their time to make delicious cholent for kiddush on Shabbos. We are looking to expand our group of volunteers so that we can have the Crock Pot Kiddush monthly, usually around Rosh Chodesh. Volunteers can be reimbursed up to $80 for ingredients. If you are interested in making cholent for the shul please contact Holly Weiss at

Kiddush Committee News
Kiddush clean up is on a rotating basis, based on your last name. While we recognize that everyone in your group may not be
available each Shabbat, we ask that you pitch in if you are assigned in that month so that the same people are not doing the clean-up each week. We all like kiddushes and we all make plans for lunch after shul so please be respectful of your fellow congregants by helping out during your assigned month if you are in shul. We also ask that you please watch your children during Kiddush to the extent possible, and to place their finished items in the garbage cans provided.
