Indiegogo Be The Momentum Campaign Update :
Dance Parade 2014 Is On!

The Parade and Festival Are On!
On Saturday May 17th, join Grand Marshals Savion Glover, Jawole Zolar and Hex Hector along with 10,000 other dancers for the 8th annual Dance Parade and Festival!

Although, as a community, we did not reach our fundraising goal with our first Indiegogo Campaign, we have been able to make up some of the difference throughout the year from grants and donations.

We currently have over 150 dance groups registered to “Be The Momentum.” Our year-long fundraising efforts have allowed us to offer scholarship fee waivers to 37 of these groups to participate in the parade and festival. Click here to check out who else is dancing in the parade this year.

Thanks to discounted audio from our generous equipment vendors, All four stages for the Tompkins Square Park’s DanceFest are funded. Check out our DanceFest lineup here.

Unfortunately as an organization, we have had to make some hard choices because of the Indiegogo shortfall. We have had to cut back our Community Kinect Education program, that provides after-school fitness to NYC Parks and Recreation Centers, but we have fully funded “Ageless Action”, FREE dance programs in four sites: Ft. Hamilton Senior Center (Brooklyn), Hansborough Recreation Center (Washington Heights), Chelsea Recreation Center (Manhattan) and The Lenox Hill Senior Center (Manhattan).  Click here to learn more about our Community Engagement Programs.

We’ve offered classes to hundreds of seniors and many will be dancing down Broadway with us this year for the first time. Seniors not able to dance in the streets will be aboard Dance Parade’s Grand Marshal float with celebrities Savion Glover and Jawole Zollar. There’s still plenty of time for you to contribute to the 8th Annual Dance Parade. Click here to donate or volunteer to help make May 17th an amazing day for tens of thousands of fellow New Yorkers and dancers from around the world.  We appreciate your support!

Volunteer Spotlight :
Meet DanceFest Co-Producer Jamila Holman

Dance Parade, Inc. is a volunteer supported non-profit organization! It is the dedication, expertise and rhythm of these brave few that are solely responsible for the success of the event and all the background work that goes on all year long leading up to the parade and festival. Every month, we choose a different volunteer to spotlight. We ask them a few questions to let you know who they are, where they’ve come from and where they see themselves in the future.  This month, we feature Jamila Holman, Our Co-Producer of DanceFest in Tompkins Square Park!

The annual event culminates with an eclectic DanceFest in Tompkins Square Park.   Those dancing with Pacha are to meet at 1:30 pm to start the festivities down Broadway at 2:00 pm and add the finishing touches to a beautiful day as the final float in the parade!

This ain’t no Easter Parade. The Dance Parade makes its way through the streets of NYC today, with Chairman of the Board Erick Morillo leading the way! Expect floats, costumes, go-go boys, girls and everything in between. But we're not done yet. The Subliminal head honcho moves the party to Pacha tonight, for a celebration of the foundation of everything that makes nightclubs great – and, as a wise woman once said, the vertical expression of a horizontal desire. #ERICKSBACK! Saturday May 17th, the chairman of the board Erick Morillo returns to Pacha NYC!
