What's Taste of Liberia all about?
-Celebrating Liberia's 170+ years of remarkable history, arts, cultural heritage, and rich foods of Africa’s only republic founded by free African American Settlers.
-Remembering our historical past of founding by freed slaves from the US and Caribbean
-How the freed slaves foods got mixed with the indigenous residents foods and some became a blend of Black American Southern Cuisine and African dishes (Collard Greens, Cabbage, black eyed peas, Fried Okra, etc...).
-Which is especially important given that 2019 is the 400th year anniversary of the arrival of the 1st African slaves into the US.
-Chance to protect and develop Liberia's eco-tourism potential
Sickle Cells education and fundraising for St. Jude's Children's hospital
-Although sickle cell disease is a rare disease in the USA (affecting some 100K+ people). It is a major killer in Liberia and other West African countries with very little diagnosis and treatment facilities.
-St Jude is the premier and world renowned research hospital involved in the quest for a cure for sickle cell disease.
-Whatever we can do to further that along by fundraising and supporting them, will also greatly help many needy and ill prepared Liberian and West African kids towards curing this horrible and painful disease.
