Century City is our new Cape Town home

Linda Benwell

We have just taken up residence in our new Cape Town home, in bustling Century City. After many years in our Goodwood offices, we had years of accumulated files, mountains of paper, favourite old furniture, obsolete technology, some very strange bits and bobs tucked away in cupboards, and a whole bunch of good memories to either throw away, or pack up and move with us. So we got our hands dirty, cleaned out, dusted off, kept what we needed, donated a lot, laughed a lot, and moved from the old to the new.

Moving is always stressful, and we loved our stay in Goodwood, but we are excited to be in the midst of Century City. Boxes have been unpacked, desks arranged and the small things sorted out. The tea and coffee is up and running, so if you are in the area, feel free to drop in for a cup of tea!

A virtual conference streamed from CTICC

Conference

XL Millennium recently managed the logistics for a virtual conference run from a fabulous virtual conference studio at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

Platform

We used one of our online conference platforms for this insurance industry client, and had 200 people logging in from around South Africa.

Logistics

XL Millennium set up the hub of the conference at the CTICC conference studio with its fantastic technology, sound, lighting and staging facilities.

The client company's CEO, the MC and guest speakers all delivered their presentations from the virtual studio. A pre-recorded session was also streamed, and the conference included a panel discussion.

Showing some care

Care bears

When we packed up our Goodwood offices, we found that we had many items that could prove useful to others, although we no longer needed them. We were incredibly pleased to be able to donate rather than throw out, and the recipients were just as pleased to receive the goods. Stationery items such as paper, pens, rulers and files, computers, keyboards and mousepads, telephones and even furniture all found new homes at four creches in Elsies River. Of course, we added some items that the children would find more interesting!

NEWS

Spain to welcome cruise ships soon

Authorities in Spain have announced that international cruise ships will be allowed to dock again from 7 June, after banning cruise ships from its ports in June 2020. The country is hoping to bolster its battered tourism sector in time for the summer season.

Let the Games begin... or not?

It is now less than two months before the planned start of the delayed Tokyo Summer Olympics, and opinions on the event going ahead are divided. International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound says the Olympic Games will go ahead this year. Meanwhile, Japan's government will decide this week whether to extend a state of emergency across much of the country. While there is mounting pressure from health experts to call off the Games, Pound said that staging the Games will be a symbol of hope for the world after a difficult year.
