Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 9 December

Next Wednesday, 9 December, is (Not The) Print Competition Round 2 which is being judged by John Tilsley APAGB DPAGB ARPS. John is a member of Dorchester CC and has visited us many times, he also organises the judging seminars run by WCPF - so hopefully he should know how to judge a competition!

If you want to read a bit about John and also see what sort of pictures float his boat, why not visit his website by clicking here.

There is an article by John on judging in Issue 271 of PAGB eNews (see Downloads below)
The talk starts at 19:30hrs but will be open from 19:15hrs.

Important FIAP Distinctions News
Due to problems with the postal services worldwide, caused by Covid-19, FIAP have made the following decisions that will ONLY apply to this year’s Distinction applications for the 2021 awards.
1. For applicants for AFIAP and EFIAP Distinctions, there will be no requirement for acceptances in “print” salons.
2. For applications for MFIAP in 2021 portfolio submissions will be in high resolution jpeg files only - 3,600 pixels on the longest side @ 300ppi.

2020 Masters of Print
The 2020 Masters of Print is now open for entries. This year there cannot be a physical exhibition, but it will still have the same prestige, the same high standards, the same distinctive badge and, best of all, a fabulous ‘coffee table’ catalogue for every entrant. Full details here.

Since they will not be mounting or framing the accepted prints, there will be less constraint on size and format. In fact, any shape or size you like on A3 or 12”x16” paper!

Closing Date Online is 08 Mar 2021
Receipt of Prints must be by 5 Mar 2021

External Competitions
FIAP World Cup of Clubs
Mike Martin mentioned this a few weeks ago.  Here’s our entry.... Unfortunately we’ve got to wait till the new year to see how we fare, but Mike’s hoping we can match our recent Kingswood Salver success, albeit difficult on this much wider stage.  Thanks to everyone who sent in images for consideration not just those selected – without you we couldn’t pull together such a strong submission.

Competition Season Continues

Mike still needs images for the following. Please send any images that you wish to be considered to Mike_Martin@blueyonder.co.uk [Mike has recent internal competition entries and images used externally so no need to re-send those].

GB Cup (PDI) and GB Trophy (Print)
Two themes in each: Open and Nature
The flyer for this was included in Newsletter408
DPIC 2021 (PDI)
We need a strong showing here to redeem ourselves after this year’s event.

FIAP Biennial.
This is an opportunity to represent your country.  Club members are invited / encouraged to submit entries via their Club for consideration as part of the PAGB entry into this global competition.  There are 3 set themes... all slightly challenging:
  • Creative
  • Minimalism
  • Humour
New work is needed for these as our archive of previous images are a bit sparse on these particularly the latter two categories!  If you want more info on this, details are on the PAGB website.  [Note: entry via the club.]

Photography Show
Following on from September’s Virtual Festival, there will be another ‘Photography Show’ online event on 6 & 7 March 2021 with a refreshed format. Visitors can expect an extensive programme of exclusive tutorials and masterclasses; plus product demos and interactive advice clinics hosted by kit specialists and big brands. The show will also feature exclusive deals and offer the chance to purchase kit and accessories from a range of outlets. Register your interest here

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Steve Field who has now added BPE 1* to his list of distinctions.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Competitions to Enter
Friends of the Ridgeway : Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize

The Ridgeway – the oldest road in Britain – historically was a trackway providing a reliable trading route from the Dorset coast along the chalk Downs to the Wash in Norfolk. Today it is not only the oldest road but part of that original route is a National Trail; it is also a wonderful resource for all the communities that live along its route, not just walkers where visitors and locals alike can enjoy walking, riding or just being there.  The Friends of the Ridgeway, a voluntary organisation and registered charity, is committed to the preservation in perpetuity of all the natural aspects and features of the ancient Ridgeway. Details of the Friends are at http://www.ridgewayfriends.org.uk/

The Friends of the Ridgeway were very disappointed to have to cancel the Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize in 2020. However, we are delighted to announce that the Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize will be held next year in in April 2021. If practical and possible, there will be an exhibition in Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington; if not possible there will be an online exhibition and prize giving.

The aim of the competition is to bring The Ridgeway to life not only as a long distance trail but as an artistic inspiration, and to show The Ridgeway, its history and environs, in all their aspects throughout all seasons. The theme of the competition is ‘Spirit of the Ridgeway’.  There will be separate classes for (i) wall art (including painting, drawing, etching, textile pictures and wall hangings, and mosaics), (ii)  sculpture (including ceramics), (iii)   photography (including digital art), and (iv) writing (poetry or prose).

If possible there will be an exhibition of works submitted for the competition.  It will be open to the public on Saturday 24 April and Sunday 25 April 2021 in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington (Broad Street, Uffington, Oxfordshire, SN7 7RA). If a physical exhibition is not possible, there will be an online exhibition and prize giving.
