European Professional Detergents Market Set to Grow by 4.5%

Europe’s professional textile detergents market continues to expand, driven by demand for energy-efficient washing processes, specialized formulations and automated dosing technologies. According to Interconnection Consulting, market value across six major European countries is expected to increase by 4.5% to approximately €3.29 billion in 2026.

The latest IC Market Tracking Detergents B2B in Europe study forecasts volume growth of 1.8%, indicating that market value is rising considerably faster than consumption. All six countries examined are expected to record growth. Poland leads with 5.5%, followed by the United Kingdom (+5.1%), Spain (+4.5%), Germany (+4.4%), the Netherlands (+4.2%) and France (+3.1%). Alkaline detergents account for the largest product segment with a market share of 25.3%, followed by disinfectants at 24.4%. Enzymatic detergents are expected to achieve the strongest growth, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.2% through 2029. Their ability to deliver effective cleaning results at lower temperatures supports efforts to reduce energy consumption and operating costs.

Industrial laundries and textile rental companies remain the industry's largest customers, accounting for 51.1% of market demand in 2026. This segment is projected to grow by 5.4% annually through 2029, supported by increasing textile volumes from hotels, hospitals and institutional customers. Industry consolidation is also reshaping supplier relationships.

“Manufacturers must increasingly differentiate themselves through technical expertise and long-term partnerships rather than price alone,” explains study author Rubén Rodríguez. The ten leading manufacturers, including BÜFA, Christeyns, Ecolab, Diversey/Solenis and Werner & Mertz Professional, collectively hold approximately 45.6% of the market. By 2029, the combined market value across the six countries is forecast to reach €3.75 billion, representing an increase of nearly €460 million compared with 2026.
