March 2021 |
Dear ,
In our first newsletter of 2021, we not only update you on a selection of our activities but also present a new design that we hope you enjoy.
The need for support and knowledge in the agro-food domain is very high. Despite the Covid pandemic, we managed to provide many training sessions and workshops for many organizations in many different regions. A year ago, we couldn't have imagined that we would be able to conduct so many online training sessions, webinars, and workshops. Now, almost one year later, our clients and trainers are comfortable using Zoom, to tackle technology problems, have vibrant discussions online, and even offer practical online sessions. Although we learned to maximize the possibilities of online tools, we are also looking forward to meeting each other face to face once again.

India training-of-trainers project reaches new milestone
Covid-19 had a big impact on our planning for the three-year India project to realize market-driven greenhouse vegetable production. Unfortunately the proposed face-to-face training sessions for farmers had to be postponed several times during 2020.Eventually, we decided to change to two-day online training and preparations. On 9 and 10 February, about 60 trainees joined the online training event.
The trainers’ group that has been trained in this project has been formalized as Maharashtra Greenhouse Experts (MGE), powered by CoE Baramati. MGE and CoE aim to work together to further develop and professionalize the greenhouse vegetable sector of Maharashtra.

After wrapping up a feasibility study with Fresh Studio and Ridder Growing Solutions, HollandDoor concluded that the greenhouse cultivation sector in the highlands of Vietnam is ready to introduce water recycling technology. The study, conducted in the second half of 2020, explored the arguments and drivers for farmers in Da Lat, in Vietnam’s Lam Dong province, to invest in drain water recycling systems.

Benin: video conferencing enables weekly training sessions
The Nuffic-funded OKP project in Benin, in which we conduct training sessions in horticulture, irrigation, and animal production began as 2020 came to a close. As we cannot yet travel to Benin, we installed a high-tech video conferencing system in all participating schools: KIKA, INA, NATI, and BANIKOARA.
Today, thanks to modern technology, we can successfully conduct weekly training sessions. The teachers and participants found it challenging at first, but everybody is now getting used to this type of teaching and a part of the project has already been completed.
