Dear Neighbors,

I hope you enjoyed your Independence 🇺🇸 Day holiday. Here are your updates.

Vision Zero Improvements
I am proud that Hoboken is a leader in the Vision Zero efforts to eliminate all traffic-related injuries and deaths by 2030. As a member of the City’s Transportation Subcommittee, I focus on working to make our streets and neighborhoods safer for drivers and pedestrians.
On July 3rd, a significant improvement was made on Clinton St. between 14th and 15th Street, removing the "longitudinal hump" that has concerned the neighborhood. This is one of a series of milling and paving operations for Vision Zero safety enhancements on 19 blocks of roadway.
These upgrades, aimed at infrastructure and pedestrian safety, will be funded by low-interest loans from the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank and grants from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The Vision Zero safety improvements include:
  • 67 high-visibility crosswalks
  • 44 ADA-compliant curb ramps at pedestrian crossings
  • Daylighting at 12 intersection approaches with flexible bollards to prevent obstructions
  • Five painted curb extensions
  • Three curb extension rain gardens for pedestrian safety and stormwater management
  • One concrete curb extension
  • Restriped bike lanes on Adams Street and Jefferson Street
  • Updated striping and pavement markings
Additionally, ResilienCity Park — our special, newly opened 5th Ward park — and its surrounding roadways have undergone resurfacing, incorporating the following Vision Zero safety enhancements:
  • 20 high-visibility crosswalks
  • 21 ADA-compliant curb ramps at pedestrian crossings
  • 12 daylit intersection approaches
  • Three decorative intersections with Endurablend red brick treatment
  • Three curb extension rain gardens
  • One concrete curb extension
  • One restriped bike lane on Adams Street and Jefferson Street
These are important upgrades that will make the park safer for all residents and especially our most vulnerable users —  improvements on which I have focused and regularly discussed with the administration. You can keep up to date with the City's Construction Updates page here.

Multi-Service Center Revitalization Project Survey
The City has launched an online public survey to gather community feedback on three distinct concept designs for the revitalization of our Multi-Service Center.
Many 5th Ward residents have shared with me their interest in Hoboken’s finally building a municipal pool — for recreation and swimming lessons. I’m glad to report each proposed concept includes a community pool.
The project team aims to develop a final concept design based on input received from the survey and community and stakeholder meetings. The three concept design propositions are as follows:
Stacked Recreation with Rooftop Aquatics:
Pavilions in the Park:
Raised Recreation:
You can share your preferences here. The survey remains open until Friday, July 14th, at 6 pm. For more information on the Multi-Service Center revitalization project, click here.

Open Pool 🏊‍♀️Hours 🏊‍♂️at Hoboken High School
In addition to the swimming options that Hoboken residents have at Stevens Institute and the Weehawken Community pool that I described in my last newsletter, Hoboken High School’s indoor pool is also accessible to all residents this summer, thanks to a collaborative effort between the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Board of Education.
From July 10 to July 27, the pool, situated at 800 Clinton St., will welcome visitors from Monday to Thursday, between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm, as well as on Saturdays from 11 am to 3:30 pm.
From July 31 to August 10, the pool operating hours will be from Monday to Thursday, 11 am to 3:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 11 am to 3:30 pm.
To use the pool, participants must register here. More details on this program are located here

Hoboken's summer foods program for kids
The summer foods program in Hoboken, backed by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, returns from July 10th through August 25th.
Children under the age of 18 can access complimentary lunch every weekday, Monday through Friday, from 12 pm to 1:30 pm. The designated locations for this program include Columbus Park, 7th & Jackson Resiliency Park, and Madison Street Park and all lunches must be consumed at the parks.
