ALBANESE'S ONE-YEAR LGBTIQA+ REPORT CARD SHOWS BIG ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

The federal Labor Government has a long way to go before it can boast substantial achievements for the LGBTIQA+ community.

According to a report card released by Just.Equal Australia to mark one year of the Albanese Government, only one reform has been passed (protecting trans and intersex people from workplace discrimination under the Fair Work Act) and two funding announcements in relation to health and international advocacy (both of which were much less than required).

Meanwhile, major reforms the Government promised, including counting LGBTIQA+ people in the Census inclusion and protections for LGBTIQA+ students and teachers, remain under consultation, and there is a long list of reforms the Government isn't considering.

"We welcome workplace protections for trans, gender diverse and intersex Australians, but the continued discrimination against LGBTIQA+ teachers and students in faith-based schools is something the Government should have passed laws against already", Ms Goldner said.

"As for the continued culture war against trans and gender diverse people, the Government has consistently failed to stand up for us."

"The one glimmer of hope for trans and gender diverse people is that the Government is considering Medicare rebates for gender affirming health care."

Mr Greig said,

"The Albanese Government is doing the bare minimum to look better than the Dutton-led Coalition, but this is nowhere near enough to adequately address anti-LGBTIQA+ discrimination."

"A Just.Equal survey, released earlier this year found that Labor lost 1 in 5 LGBTIQA+ voters, mostly to the Greens, mostly because of Labor's support for the previous government's anti-LGBTIQA Religious Discrimination Bill."

"If Labor wants to win back disaffected LGBTIQA+ voters it must do more."
