If you missed "Mawson's Mettle: Alone On The Wide Shores Of The World" when it played at Hipbone Studio this January, or if you liked it so much you want to come and hear it again, Portland Story Theater is pleased to announce that our good friends Chris Powell and Sarah Curtis-Fawley of Pacific Pie Company are bringing this extraordinary show to the pie shop for two nights: Sunday, March 21st and Sunday, March 28th.
Mawson's Mettle is the second chapter in Portland Story Theater's Armchair Adventurer series, and the sequel to Lawrence Howard's epic narrative, Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare. A veteran of one of Shackleton's earlier voyages, Douglas Mawson led an Australian expedition to the frozen continent in 1911. Out sledging with two other men, Mawson was thrown into peril when one of the sledges -- along with the six best dogs, most of the food and equipment, and one of his companions -- was lost in a deep crevasse. After his second companion and the rest of the dogs died, Mawson struggled against freezing temperatures, 80 mile-per-hour winds, loneliness, grief, illness and starvation, pulling his one remaining sledge for hundreds of miles. Mawson's Mettle played to packed houses during its January run. Now our friends at Pacific Pie Company are bringing Mawson to the pie shop.
In case you haven't already heard, Pacific Pie Company makes savory Australian-style meat and vegetable pies that are out of this world!! And, of course, Douglas Mawson is a great national hero in Australia. So Mawson's Mettle is the perfect show for dinner theater at the pie shop!
Chris and Sarah are offering dinner, dessert and the show all for the low package price of $25. This is going to be delicious!!
