Researchlab 2025, EYE filmmuseum Cinema 3, Friday 7 February, 20:00 hours (with introduction) , IJpromenade 1, Amsterdam_ 'No horses on Mars'
With their eclectic selection of films, students from Leiden University want to make you think about the representation of animals in film, with an emphasis on their misrepresentation.
It is a recurring part of the artistic debate: questions about changing the human perspective to one that takes into account other organisms. Artists who use these non-human perspectives often try to criticize the Anthropocene through their art and create new ways of seeing.
Off Screen screening at Worm, Rotterdam_ 'No horses on Mars', January 2025
'No horses on Mars' is the second part of a trilogy in which the 'animal gaze' and the 'human gaze' are equal. In the film, Bea de Visser scientifically examines the horse, using CT brain scans, recording the animal with motion capture and thermal images, tacking it across a kitchen table or observing it underwater. 'No horses on Mars' is thus a poetic analysis of what the animal may experience in a world shaped by humans.
A prelude on Internnational Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR2025) with Directors Vanja Kaludjercic & Clare Steward. With a Live performance Gerwin Luijendijk and drawings of Mirjam Somers and a tribute to René Hazekamp
