The former director of a supposed "no-kill"
animal shelter in Georgia was free on bond
Thursday after a grand jury indicted her for
allegedly charging owners not to euthanize
their pets and then killing them anyway.

A quick update: The fleas are well under control now,
but I'm not sure I can rest until I'm sure they're gone.
The flea traps were empty this morning, so that's a good
sign.
One thing I forgot to mention in my 3-step procedure for
this problem (1. treat the animals, 2. treat the environment)
is No. 3. treat yourself.
If the fleas are in the carpet, chances are they may be
biting your ankles. If so, you can stop the itching with
vinegar. Spray it or dab it on.
Another thing I forgot to mention for No. 2, treating the
environment, is the use of a steam mop. After I vacuum, I
drag out the Shark Steam Mop. Don't buy it from the TV
commercial, where it costs more than $100. I got mine from
Walmart for $39. Other brands are fine, too. Whatever you
can manage. The steam helps kill the eggs as well as adult
fleas, though they can be very sturdy.
The best approach is to mount a multi-pronged attack.
CAT FOOD NEWS
If you know someone who has to choose between paying
the bills or feeding a pet, you may wish to tell them
about this new program: Pet Food Stamps!
A group of donors based in New York created a program
which distributes the food through PetFlow.com, but only
to needy pet owners in the U.S.
Once the need is verified (applicants must fill out a
form online), petfood is shipped monthly for 6 months.
Apply at
www.petfoodstamps.org - but be patient; it can
take up to 6 weeks to get a response. Needless to say,
this program is overwhelmed with applications in these
difficult economic times.
Be sure to visit the site even if you don't need free
food. There is a beautiful little slide show!
