Testimonial
of the Month
"Too bad you don't collect reviews on your patterns. I just finished the Quattro and i've got to tell you - it's the 1st decently engineered bag pattern I've ever gotten from an indie designer, and besides that... it's gorgeous! Thanks!"

Hello and Welcome-
Normally June is kind of a lazy month for us, but not so THIS year! We're in the final throes of publishing our new handbag pattern and at the same time we're making final preps to leave everything behind for a couple weeks of vacation.
So try to ignore the crazywoman in the background as you read!  :)

And as usual, if you have comments or suggestions about our Newsletter, please feel free to let us know at info@studiokatdesigns.com

 "Handbag of the Month" Gallery-
Congratulations to Marilyn McAllister of Aberdeen, NC. She was pretty much the runaway winner of our May contest! Marilyn wins a $25.00 SKD gift certificate and a permanent place of honor on our website. Click here to see her jaguar-crazy Guardian! The race for 2nd place was extremely close but Dale Whyte prevailed with her travel-inspired Baggalista and you'll get another chance to support that entry in December when we host our 4th annual "Battle of the HOM 2nd's"!

So...are you ready to see this month's entries?
We've got a gorgeous group of 10 to share with you this month, so without further adieu, check out this month's nominees, then cast a vote for your favorite.

(To see BIGGER pictures: Click on each individual image)
Chrystina Power of Spring, TX created this elegant Quattro. She tells me this gorgeous number was fabricated completely from her stash, one piece of which has been there 5+ years!

And this Quattro looks good enough to eat, and I bet it tastes like citrus, no? It was created by Sharon Wright of Melissa, TX and here's a peek at the interior!

And this fashion forward Gadabout comes to us all the way from Enisa Durakovic of Slovenia! I love the fun polka-dotted bias tape she chose and the VERY interesting zipper pull!  :)

Enisa also created this eye-popping Gadabout. Don't you LOVE the bright yellow interior? and look closely, she actually added ALL of the exterior stitching embellishment for both of these bags! Great job, girl!  :)

And this Uptown Saddlebag by Sarah Dannerbeck of Santa Fe, NM strikes me a happy bag to carry. I'm not really familiar with this fabric but I like it!  :)

Jan Hellyer of Sydney, Australia created this Cordicella for her granddaughter's 4th birthday. She was having a "Princess Party" and those this fabric was quite appropriate! :)  I bet she loved it!

And this Quattro has what might be one of the most interesting stories I've heard yet! Wendy Holtorff of San Antonio, TX told me that she used a curtain panel she got at Goodwill Industries for the exterior. Isn't that cool? Here's a peek at the back!

And Juanita Jarrett of Attica, MI says that she received numerous compliments on her Boho Baguette, and I can certainly understand why!  :)
Alice Page loved the first Quattro she made so much that she 'had' to create another! When I first saw this picture it reminded me of a British garden
and sure enough, this picture was taken in Scotland where Alice lives part of the year. Here's a peek and the zippered main entry. Alice said she took this picture while in France.  :)

And last but not least is this eye-catching Boho Baguette by Rosemarie Sabey of Ransomville, NY. Rosemarie says she has made 5 or 6 Boho's so far as its her favorite pattern. Here's a peek at the roomy interior and I love this red fabric from StudioE.
OK, ready to vote now?

Techie Tutorial of the Month- The FaceBook Privacy Dinosaur

Question: When I was on Facebook recently, a "Privacy Reminder" pop-up window showed up with a dinosaur on it. Can you explain what's going on with this dinosaur?

Answer: Facebook is testing this pop-up reminder to encourage users — who are about to make public posts that all the world can see — to pay attention to who they're sharing with on its platform.

For those of you who haven't had a visit from the privacy dinosaur yet, its message reads, "Sorry to interrupt. You haven't changed who can see your posts lately, so we just wanted to make sure you're sharing this post with the right audience." It then asks the user to click on Friends, Public, or Options (for more choices).

It's a good reminder for all of us to think before we share on Facebook so we don't overshare with the wrong group of people.

During a recent class session, Virginia Commonwealth University engineering students Clayton Miller and Maricarl Hidalgo arranged dozens of yellow and black cloth triangles as they tried to design and create a small quilt that would evoke VCU’s Rams logo.
Miller and Hidalgo are two of 22 engineering students in a new experimental course on innovation – and quilting – at VCU.

Monthly Trivia-
Today is June 9th, the 160th day of the year, and just in case you're interested, there are 205 days remaining in 2014. And if you think you're catching a whiff of birthday cake, you ARE because today is the birthday of two of Hollywood's best leading men! I've been a fan of Michael J Fox since WAY back to his "Family Ties" days and I very much admire the way he has persevered through his ordeal with Parkinson's Disease. Michael is celebrating his 53rd birthday today and he shares his special day with Johnny Depp (the best-looking pirate I know) who is 51.
And if today is also YOUR birthday, then here's a great big "Happy Birthday to YOU!" from StudioKat Designs, and if today is not your birthday you can celebrate the day anyway by watching a very old Family Ties episode, or maybe by simply wearing some BOLD eyeliner and a headband for part or all of the day in honor of Johnny's legendary character from Pirates of the Caribbean!  :)

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
