 NEWSLETTER JUNE 2024
|

Hello art-lovers,
The latter half of May and June have been an exhilarating whirlwind of activity! We've had the intricate task of installing a monumental suspended sculpture for the town hall of Roeselare, we have been preparing for "SCULPTURAL" (a show I'm curating alongside 13 other talented artists), and having my works shown at the openings of "Fuga's en Pimpelmezen" at Museumhuis Lucien de Gheus in Poperinge, Belgium, and "Hybrides" at the cultural centre De Warande in Turnhout, Belgium. As well as showcasing a new outdoor sculpture during the Àmare art route in Damme (in collaboration with Annelies Ysebaert).
It's been a bustling few weeks, filled with creative energy. I'm incredibly grateful for these experiences and can't wait to share some photos with you.
As we look ahead to summer, I'm thrilled to invite you to SCULPTURAL starting on the 2nd of July. I’m also excited to be collaborating once again with Niqui from NQ Gallery to extend SCULPTURAL to her gallery in Antwerp during the summer (starting 5th of July). You are warmly invited to visit both my art hall, K.E.R.K., in Middelkerke, and NQ Gallery in Antwerp to explore this diverse selection of sculptural artworks.
Warm regards,
Nick :-)

FINAL RESULT OF INSTALLING ROSULACIO
Town Hall, Roeselare - BE
30/06/2024
Following the newsletter of May, which showed the installation process, I am now thrilled to unveil my new work "ROSULACIO".
My organic Blob form introduces a new balance to the sleek architectural context of the building. Through this sculpture, I channel life energy throughout the entire structure, breathing vitality into the various cultures and interests housed here. Vibrations radiate in all directions.
The central yellow shell suggests a core, invisible to the eye and composed of planes of emptiness. Something fundamental is present here in the Roeselare Town Hall, yet it is not imposing or rigidly defined, as this is a place of communication and trust. My expansive sculpture envelops and intertwines, reminiscent of many of Henry Moore's works, embracing a central void that not only invites observation but also allows one to see right through it.
Keep an eye out for photos from the opening next month, when the sculpture will be able to shine in a finished environment. Or, feel warmy invited to visit the town hall on the 30th of June!

TRAHIABLU, among fields and trees
Opening 18th May 2024
Amare 2024 Art Route, Damme - BE
In collaboration with Annelies Ysebaert
On the gentle fields of Damme, this new large sculpture will capture the eye of passerby's on this tranquil art route leading through the picturesque town and its surroundings. One of my well known works "CULMIRIOM', that has already been shown at several locations, also makes a return to the public eye for them to enjoy. The Amáre art route is certainly a must see for all those who love a nice walk and enjoy sculptures.
TRAHIABLU, along with CULMIRIOM, follows the visual language of my BLOB mutations. These art works are characterized by amorphous, organic, round, playful, futuristic, and unpredictable shapes. Instead of using my usual monotone but bright yellow, I decided to incorporate the colors found in my SKIN mutations—a spectrum of reds, oranges, greens, and blues, reminiscent of the undertones found in skin. This shift in palette invites contemplation: could this organic BLOB shape signify the growth of a minuscule creature into something monumental?

LOOKING BACK AT "Fuga's en Pimpelmezen"
Museumhuis Lucien De Gheus , Poperinge , BE
08/06/2024 - 29/09/2024
It has been a pleasure attending the opening of "Fuga's and Pimpelmezen" at the Museum House Lucien De Gheus. My two ceramic works, REWOLENO and BRUNTUSKE, are now part of the museum’s collection, alongside the diverse creations of contemporary artists participating in this exhibition.
REWOLENO is a piece from my Plant Mutation series. Unlike my recent works featuring trees and fruits, such as the Cyborg-Bonsai tree and mutated strawberries, this piece draws inspiration from corals and the intricate network of roots that twist beneath the Earth's surface. These roots are the unseen life-givers to the world above.
BRUNTUSKE, on the other hand, is from my Skin Mutations series. It reflects my fascination with the texture and imperfections of skin, stretched over my smooth Blobs and coral-like Plant Mutations. This piece also evokes the hollowed-out Gonshi stones, where water erosion creates natural negative spaces within the rocks. According to Chinese belief, even these seemingly lifeless stones are homes to the spirits of ancestors.
Both sculptures have taken on a life of their own, their forms exuding a dynamic energy and movement. Despite their static nature as sculptures, they seem ready to come alive and move across the surface.

Upcoming: SCULPTURAL
K.E.R.K., Sint-Pieters-Kapelle, BE
02/07/2024 - 31/09/2024
Sculpting the Space Between Observation and Representation
The exhibition SCULPTURAL highlights the work of 13 Flemish artists, ranging from emerging talents to established figures, who consider sculpture to be the core of their artistic expression. Their primary focus is on transforming raw materials into three-dimensional forms that articulate complex ideas, emotions, and experiences. They begin with a keen observation of reality, translating it into tactile, spatial art that emphasizes the physicality of objects and their interaction with space.
If you're a lover of sculptural art, this exhibition is an essential visit this summer, especially when paired with the art route in Damme. Don't miss out on this captivating experience! ;-)
