Yesterday was a beautiful day in Dublin, near 20° and sunny all day. And as the beautiful weather goes into the trash, why not finish it off with the first event of the Wilde Stages Festival? Trash Cinema Club returns in the Pearse Centre at 8:00 pm on Sunday.
Rock Bottom Saloon, an experimental theatre group who embrace unconventional, boundary-pushing projects, bring Trash Cinema Club back again this year to the Wilde Stages Festival. Trash Cinema Club is an immersive, communal experience that celebrates the subversive, irreverent world of "bad films" or "paracinema." We take a distinctly queer, oppositional stance against mainstream "taste," creating a space where failure, excess, and absurdity are not just embraced but also celebrated as artistic choices.
We can’t reveal the name of the films that will be screened, but we can tell you the first performance tomorrow will be introduced with a live comedy set by TikTok superstar Meg “Few Cans” Reilly.
The second instalment will be on Sunday, May 3, also at the Pearse Centre at 8:00 pm. Expect a drag double whammy as GoblinsGoblinsGoblins and Sasha Shame, two shameless purveyors of filth, pull you into the depths of depravity before treating your to a cult film often called “the gay version of The Room.”
Smack in the middle of the Festival on Maa 10, a discussion with Dr. Sarah Cleary will bring Trash Cinema 2026 to a thrilling close as she imparts her expertise that earned her the title 'Dublin's Queen of Halloween' folloed by a surprise screening of a cult horror classic!
Trash Cinema Club runs a different programme each Sunday through May 10. Performances will start at 8:00 each week at the Pearse Centre, 27 Pearse Street, D02 K037. Tickets are €15, and available at the door or at our online box office. For more information, see our website, gaytheatre.ie. As the Pearse Centre does not have a bar, you are permitted to bring your own drink.
WEEK 1 BEGINS WITH MATINEES ON MONDAY 4 MAY

DON’T FORGET: TODAY IS TRANSQUAKE
In 2010 as an undergraduate at Purdue University, Dr. Jey C. McCreight created the viral phenomenon “Boobquake,” a satirical response to religious claims that women’s clothing could cause earthquakes. Sixteen years later McCreight returns with a new cultural experiment rooted in the same combination of humor, science, and public participation—Transquake, a worldwide virtual event inviting trans people and allies around the world to participate in a coordinated expression of trans joy.
For years, the right has claimed that trans people are an evil blight destroying society. I say it’s time to test if trans joy is truly that powerful. Will our gender-bending magic cause an earthquake under Mar-a-Lago? Are my powers gone after top surgery, or amplified? Will I be the one struck down with a bolt of lightning? I guess we’ll see!
Participants are encouraged to take part in ways that are safe and meaningful to them—whether through local gatherings, performances, community events, or social media using the hashtag #Transquake.
