A Message from the Executive Director
Santa's Cottage 2023
The 2023 event season is over.  December has been busy.  Winterfest was held on December 8th.  Attendance was estimated at over 1,000 participants.  Over 250 kids visited Santa that day; 130 people tried their hand at “Shoot-the-Puck”; 200 letters to Santa were written; hundreds of kids rode on the train, visited with Anna, Elsa and Olaf and listened to story time.  Musical performances by MHS a cappella choir- Rush Hour; Carl Sandburg and Mechanics Grove Middle Schools, and variety of individual artists added to the festive environment.  The Kris Kringle market was well attended and the kid’s crafts and games were also very popular.  Winterfest will be back again next year on December 7, 2024!

Santa’s Cottage continued its long history with another great year.  This one-of-a-kind event attracted hundreds of kids on each of its 4 dates.  Santa finished his work in Mundelein on December 16th and flew off to visit other kids around the world.  He will be back again next year.

We concluded the year with our final 2023 Bingo Night at Tighthead Brewery on December 18th.   Bingo at Tighthead will also be our first event of 2024.  Mark your calendar for January 22nd—and the 4th Monday of each month—for a fun night of Bingo, Craft Beer and good food.  Bingo is a joint partnership between MCC, the GLMV Chamber and Tighthead Brewing.

Thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers and to all of you who visited an MCC event in 2023.  We hope to see you in 2024.

Mundelein Automotive Goes the Extra Mile

When we learned recently that the wheels on the trailer that supports Santa’s Cottage were in dire need of lubrication, the first place we called was one of most reliable supporters —Mundelein Automotive—to do the work.  The wheels are so old they don’t have grease fittings, so the hubs need to be removed and repacked with lubricant.  We arranged to drop off the wheels once the Cottage was in place; and, pick them up at the end of the Santa’s Cottage season.

When we asked for the invoice we were delightfully surprised to hear, “There’s no charge.  This is our way of supporting the community”.

Thanks to Rob, Rick and all the guys at Mundelein Automotive, on the corner of Seymour and Rt. 176.
MCC Webpage Gets a New Look

On October 26, 2023, the MCC Board engaged Epic Media Inc., a website design company right here in Mundelein, to redesign the Mundelein Community Connection website (mundeleincommunityconnection.org). The improvements you will see on the new website will include: an updated look, improved user experience, full calendar of events and great opportunities for local businesses to be highlighted as sponsors of events as well as those businesses that are members of Mundelein Community Connection. Stay tuned for the EPIC launch of the new Mundelein Community Connection website in early 2024.

Epic Media owner, Jess Stoffel, points out that in business today an organizations webpage is critically important:  “The website”, she says, “is your online storefront!  You need to make sure you stand out on the street.  If you don’t, it’s time to remodel”.   MCC President, Mike Flynn, explains that the current MCC website has been cobbled together by numerous volunteers over the past 25 years.  It is a hodgepodge of styles.  “Let the remodeling begin!.
