Wednesday 13th March 2019
Hello everyone,

Welcome to this week's WNIE newsletter.

It is exactly 30 years since Sir Tim Berners-Lee helped invent the world wide web, and since then we have come to rely on this global network of accessible information.

Over time, the modern world wide web has given us vast technological developments that have revolutionised our daily lives, but at the same time have the potential to negatively impact on them too.

Industry 4.0 or The IoT is now a lynchpin in the electronics industry; currently redefining our business models, business relationships and even, our business boundaries.

We have much more to gain from these groundbreaking developments but we must also be mindful of the challenges and risks that come alongside the mass sharing of information; namely losing control of data and company IP. Indeed, a 2017 survey showed that 48% of organisations have experienced at least one IoT security breach.

IoT has massive capabilities to promote industry-wide innovation, but security and privacy protection should be  critical in order for our industry to diminish risk and fully embrace all the benefits this innovation has brought and will continue to deliver.
