EQUALITY SUPPORTERS URGED TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST "ANTI-LGBTI EXEMPTIONS"

Advocates have urged supporters of equality to write a new Senate inquiry looking at marriage equality and religious exemptions.

Just.equal spokesperson, Ivan Hinton-Teoh, said,

"This inquiry is critical because we want the best bill ever, and not one riddled with anti-LGBTI exemptions."

"Just.equal has established a webform that makes it easier for supporters of equality to express their views."

"I urge everyone who writes to include their own views and experiences to ensure the inquiry hears them and doesn't dismiss what they write as part of a form letter campaign."

The inquiry will consider the marriage equality bill proposed by the Federal Government alongside its now defunct plebiscite.

The bill allows for discrimination against marrying LGBTI couples, including by civil celebrants, military chaplains and religious organisations providing commercial services.

The deadline for submissions is January 13th with the final report due February 13th.

The inquiry has four Coalition members including marriage equality supporters, senators Dean Smith and James Paterson.

It has two Labor members both of whom support marriage equality and will include an NXT member and a Green.
