This first entry is also the very 1st Guardian to be entered into our monthly contest. It was created in typical spectacular fashion by Diane Rhodes of Monroeville, PA. Diane also carried over her wonderful piecing onto the back as well and here's a surprise, she laminated the credit card area in front! I think the polka-dot zippers are the perfect finish!
This entry was submitted by Peg Rice of Westport Island, ME, our longest standing pattern tester. Peg said she's had this fabric for sometime now, but it seemed to be just right for the Guardian. I agree, don't you?
T. Maenad Widdershins of Normandy Park, WA embroidered a window to adorn the front pouch of her Quattro. (Here's a little closeup of her trapunto piece.) She was so pleased with how it came out that it made her a little sad since this piece was actually made to be sold at auction. I'm thinking it fetched a good price, no?
And can you guess who made this color-gradient Baggalista with polka-dotted zippers? If you guessed Diane Rhodes, you are RIGHT! Diane says this is her favorite of all our designs, so much so that she created a matching e-reader cover for it. And here's the best part,
I thought the e-reader cover she made was SO nifty, that asked Diane if she might be willing to write up a little tutorial for it to share with all of you, and amazingly, she said YES! We'll provide links to it later on in the body of this letter!  Thanks Diane!  :)
Carol Erskine of Southland, NZ says that her new Quattro is just the right size for all the things she needs to carry. She especially loves the bi-colored straps and the zippered main compartment and because she got the fabric on a fun shopping outing with her friends, this bag will always be special to her!  I understand, don't you?
This vision in paisley was created by Cathy Dawson of Baltimore, MD. Cathy says that she purchased the fabric on a whim with no particular project in mind, which is rare for her, but when she saw the Carolina CarryAll made up at Jinny Beyer's studio in Virginia, she knew what it was destined to become!  It looks like a FUN bag to carry, doesn't it!
And last but not least, Kim Monserrat of Cherrybrook, Australia told me that when she 1st opened her Uptown Saddlebag pattern, she feared she may have bitten off more than she could chew, but she was so tickled with the result,
that she just couldn't wait to share it and now she wants to make herself a 2nd one! Here's a peek at the back and inside the zippered flap pocket!

A NEW free Pictorial Download-
Have any interest in a pattern for a cover for your eReader or iPad?
Because if so, here's a fantastic pictorial download for you created by one of our testers, Diane Rhodes of Monroeville, PA!
When Diane sent me a picture of her bag entry a few days ago, I noticed that she included a picture of her matching eReader cover. So I asked her if she'd like to share the pattern with our readers and amazingly... she said YES! So without further adieu, the links are provided for you below (Remember, you'll need to download the instructions and BOTH templates to complete the project.)
New at StudioKat Designs- The Guardian
Today I am pleased to tell you, is the official release day of our brand new handbag pattern, the Guardian. * a roomy snapped back pocket
* PLUS- the1st EVER "concealed carry" area in a purse pattern!
The "concealed carry" feature can of course be used for any
number of alternate uses, such as a place to safely store your

and personal hygience products, to name just a few.
And even though this release has been a bit "controversial", the pattern has been very well received so far. For more info, plenty more pictures and to purchase your copy, (which comes with a complimentary utility holster pattern), click here.
ANNOUNCING! The Closeout of TWO StudioKat Designs patterns
Every now and then you have to say goodby to a good friend or two and for us, that time is now. You may or may not know that we've been working VERY hard on a brand new dynamic website. (You can see a sneek peek HERE.) And.... after doing a lot of careful thinking and pondering, we've decided that not ALL of our webpages will be making the move to the new site with us!
Along these lines, we've made the decision to scale back some of our patterns and webpages in order to be able to focus more keenly on our more modern designs. So... we're having a GREAT BIG CLOSEOUT sale on the Kizmet Klutch and the Cordicella. That's right, for a limited time you can now purchase these two patterns for $5.00 each, after which they will disappear from our website... FOREVER.
(Don't worry, even though you will  no longer find these patterns on our website, you'll still be able to find them on the following internet sites:

During these serious & troubled times, all people should remember these four great religious truths:
1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God's Chosen People.
2. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
3. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian world.
4. Baptists do not recognize each other at the liquor store.

Video of the Month- An Orphaned Hummingbird
Orphaned hummingbird - What you are about to see is a video of a Mom Hummingbird “Phoebe” – this is a webcam that is streamed to the internet all the time….and the owners took a recording they made and posted it to YouTube.
Well, this year, Phoebe had a non-viable egg, and one that hatched. Apparently, someone in the same vicinity as the Phoebe nest pruned a bush not realizing that it had an active Hummingbird nest with a baby in it…..the land owners where Phoebe’s nest is were called to see if they could help with the now orphaned “Pip”…..they did, and what you are about to see is them putting the baby into the nest, and then Phoebe coming back and immediately feeding the addition “Pip”. Click here to watch.
Cat Video of the Month- Freaked out by Mario Bros.

It's that time of year where we all start thinking about spending more time out of doors! So wouldn't be fun to spruce up our outdoor living areas a bit first?

Techie Tutorial of the Month- Adjusting Your Thread Tension
Understanding and adjusting your sewing machine's thread tension... It's one of the most confounding and frustrating things about sewing! But FINALLY, here's a terrific tutorial that explains it better than ever. I loved it so much that I pinned it to my Pinterest board so I'd never lose it! Click here to check it out!
New Word of the Month-  Unfare
(ŭn-fâr) (n.) The dollar one owes the cab driver before they've even moved a foot.
NYTimes- February 11, 2013
WATCHING cat videos is so popular that it has become shorthand for being unproductive, whether or not someone being distracted by the Internet is actually watching a cat riding a robotic vacuum or playing the piano .
Now a cat product that was introduced in 2012, Litter Genie, is being featured in a series of promotional videos on YouTube. Click here to read the entire article.

Forget what's trendy. Here's the best reason to stick with the basics.
You probably don't associate your purse with major health problems—unless you're talking about those shoulder pains you get from loading it up with everything but the kitchen sink. But a new report from environmental health scientists in California may give you pause the next time you gravitate to that trendy bag. Recent test results showed that lead in MANY purses, handbags, and wallets exceeded 300 parts per million (ppm), a limit California set for purses in 2010. Click here to read more!
Monthly Trivia-
Today is Monday, the 8th day of April, and I doubt anyone is more relieved that April is here, than I am, and that's NOT because the weather is warmer (which is really is NOT), but because baseball season is finally HERE, and basketball season is finally OVER... well, at least that will be true after tonight! (Either way its a relief for the debacle that the Wake Forest basketball program has become to be over... until next year.) But I digress...
Back to baseball- It just so happens that I remember exactly where I was on this day in 1974 (the lounge area of Stroup Dormitory), because that was the day that Hammerin' Hank Aaron hit his 715th homerun, breaking Babe Ruth's record without benefit of steroids I might add! And today is also the birthday of two Hall of Fame players! Pitcher Jim "Catfish" Hunter was born on this day in 1946 and Catcher Gary Carter in 1954. Too bad they were never on the same team, right?
And if today is also YOUR birthday, here's a great big "Happy Birthday to YOU" from StudioKat Designs, and if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway by watching the merciful end (at least for WFU fans) of the 2013 college basketball season tonight.
Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
