Below a short synopsis:

A Man Called Otto tells the story of a gruff, routine-obsessed widower whose quiet life is upended in unexpected ways. Otto is a retired man who lives alone in a suburban neighborhood, clinging tightly to rules, order, and the memory of his late wife. Bitter and withdrawn, he spends his days enforcing neighborhood regulations, correcting others, and keeping the world at a careful emotional distance. Beneath his harsh exterior, however, lies deep grief and loneliness that he struggles to confront.
At the start of the film, Otto is preparing to end his life, believing he has nothing left to live for. His plans are repeatedly interrupted, often in darkly comedic ways, forcing him back into the routines he both resents and relies on. These interruptions begin to take on greater meaning when a lively young family moves in next door. The mother, Marisol, is warm, persistent, and unafraid of Otto’s cold demeanor. Despite his resistance, she draws him into small acts of kindness—helping with practical problems, sharing meals, and gradually involving him in her family’s life.
As Otto becomes entangled in the lives of his neighbors, fragments of his past are revealed through flashbacks. We learn about his deep love for his wife, the hardships they endured together, and the profound loss that shaped his current state. These memories contrast sharply with his present isolation, highlighting the emotional walls he has built to protect himself from further pain.
Through a series of everyday interactions—teaching someone to drive, rescuing a stray cat, standing up against injustice in the community—Otto slowly begins to rediscover purpose. The connections he forms are reluctant at first, but they chip away at his bitterness. Marisol, in particular, becomes a catalyst for change, refusing to let him retreat entirely into himself. She sees through his gruffness and recognizes the good man underneath.
The film balances humor and heartbreak, using Otto’s blunt honesty and rigid worldview to create comedic moments, while never losing sight of the deeper emotional journey. His repeated failed attempts to end his life shift from dark comedy to poignant reminders of how close he is to giving up—and how the growing presence of others keeps pulling him back.
In the end, Otto’s life is transformed not by a single dramatic event, but by the accumulation of small, human connections. He moves from isolation to belonging, from despair to a quiet acceptance of life’s imperfections. The story ultimately becomes one of redemption and community, showing that even the most closed-off hearts can be reopened through compassion, persistence, and love.
Because this is after all  in the context of English conversation, the film will  be English spoken and with English subtitles.
We will start at 10.00 and end at 12.05.
