Two Great Songwriters.....
One Fantastic night of this dynamic duo in Fischer.

Michael O'Connor is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter living in Colorado. For decades he has played and recorded with musicians including Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves, Adam Carroll, Susan Gibson, Terri Hendrix, and Shelley King. A lifetime of hard-won experience on- and off-stage has allowed Michael a rare insight into the world of the rough, the faithless, the romantic, and the unlucky, all of whom find refuge in his songs. Michael has toured throughout the United States and overseas. He has released six albums, and a seventh is on the way next year.

Jeff Plankenhorn is a larger than life presence on stage. A big man with a kind smile and generous demeanor, he is often the bedrock that binds a host of talents into a moving whole. Then he picks up his slide, looks down in his lap and the joint starts hopping.
Plankenhorn made his name in Austin as a preeminent guitar slinger, especially as a slide specialist. Now he is everywhere in town.
He has also found time to put pen to paper and is increasingly known for his impressive songwriting and powerful voice.
The origins of Plankenhorn’s musical journey share a note with so many others…small town America, a church choir, a deep sense of community and ministering to others through his gift of music. It was love at first sight for Plank, this giving and sharing through music, a love that has only deepened over the years.

Fischer Haus Concerts is excited to close our 2018 season with this awesome songwriter and friend of Fischer.

Slaid Cleaves feels the inevitable slide of time, but there's still beauty to behold in its passing. A master of simple melody and sharp lyrics, the veteran singer-songwriter captures every slight nuance in the setting sun even as Ghost on the Car Radio layers melancholic. Unlike the sociopolitical punch of 2013 standout Still Fighting the War, the Austinite's latest LP strikes more personal and passive. Opener "Already Gone" roars riffs like a road-worn take on the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care," and the dark shanty rhythm of "Drunken Barber's Hand" comes closest to addressing civics, but "If I Had a Heart" underlines the disc's reflective pull in the contrast between youthful idealism and aged realism. "Little Guys" thus unfolds classic Cleaves, mourning the loss of mom-and-pop endeavors to progress, while "Primer Gray" steels against modern "flash and shine" and "Hickory" declares, "They'll cut down the trees and name your new streets Hickory, Walnut, and Pine." Loosening up the backside, "So Good to Me" holds tightly to love with pop assistance from Fastball's Miles Zuniga, and Scrappy Jud Newcomb's touching guitar accents a gorgeous "To Be Held" and Graham Weber co-write "Still Be Mine." In closing, "Junkyard" bids a gruff-voiced lay-me-down-to-rust farewell, but even as the world decays, Ghost on the Car Radio will haunt your own personal Top 40. - Austin Chronicle
