313 N. Birch Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701
Programa:
Survivors of the Pinochet Dictatorship - testimonials from the Concentration Camps
Program:
music from the youth of Son del Centro, who just participated in the annual SOA Fort Benning protest
testimonials from Tomà Gaete and Cosme Noriega, both detained at Tres Alamos
documentary "El Mocito: the Story of DINA's Employee" (DINA was Pinochet's secret police)
discussion and compilation of memories: our contribution to the new Memory Site
On September 11, 1973, the Chilean Right assumes command through a military strike. Hundreds of thousands of Chileans are persecuted because of their loyalty to the constitution and the legitimate government of the Unidad Popular, headed by President Allende. Allende and the popular singer Vistor Jara are the first victims of the dictatorship.
Nowadays, justice is on the march, made possible by the people's memories. A few weeks after the proceedings against Victor Jara's assassins, two survivors of Pinochet's dictatorship will present their testimonials, in an effort to rescue the historical memory of this grey period.
Chile's history will be intertwined with that of the U.S., from their foreign policy, including the School of the Americas (SOA), to the legacy of President Nixon's hidden interventions.
"History is ours", as our Comrade President would say. We have to compile, reconstruct and defend it.
We look forward to seeing you on the 23..and we'll have empanadas!
"Among the assassins of Victor Jara, are four graduates of the infamous School of the Americas (SOA) in the U.S."

NEW Mar 5 Tuesday 7pm, Laguna Woods:
Concerned Citizens of Laguna Woods Village: "HEIST"
@ Clubhouse 7
The film "HEIST" traces the 2008 economic collapse back to a secret 1971 memo, titled 'Attack on American Free Enterprise System.' This was written by then-business-lawyer (later Supreme Court Justice) Lewis Powell. Requested by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the memo - a free-market utopian treatise - urged big business to make over government by controlling the media, academia, clergy, and arts and sciences, and by destroying organized labor and consumer protection groups. Powell's real end-game was business control of law and politics.
Gather and Greet 6.30 pm.
Members - Free / Guests - $3

This campaign deserves our energy and dedication because water is our most precious resource and we cannot allow it to be privatized.
DFA-OC is in transition. We need to set new goals or renew them; be more certain about where we want to go and how we are going to get there. Howard Dean urged us to get involved in our local politics; to know our school boards and city councils and run for office if changes were needed.
There is much going in Orange County. How do we find out about local developments? We have progressive blogs, facebook and clubs but little else to keep us informed or call us to action.
DFA-OC has had many great friends over the years. More than a few are still active. Bring your ideas and thoughts. We'll talk and maybe decide.
