… and some current statistics:
10 years from now, 1/5 of the world’s population will be
overweight. This result comes from analyzing data on the human
population’s weight around the world over the last 40 years, and has
been published in the medical journal “The Lancet”. According to this
study obesity tendency is stable and shows no signs of abating. People
who are overweight are at higher risk from cardiovascular diseases,
diabetes, cancer and many other health problems.
Ireland, the U.K. and Albania are the top three countries in Europe
with child obesity. According to France Presse Bulgaria is the fifth,
as published in a study on the subject in Prague. The study was
conducted with the help of the World Health Organization (WHO), based on
data collected on children below and at the age of 5 in 32 countries
across the continent.
