Summer Intern: Kamali Williams
This summer, Smith College student Kamali Williams completed
Kamali on what first brought her to poetry:
"Growing up, I was always 'the reader' in my family — the one who could be found tucked away in a corner, nose buried in a book, exploring places and lives far beyond my own. Books were how I learned about the world, how I understood people, and how I built my own little mental library of ideas and images. But somewhere between middle school and freshman year of high school, something shifted. Reading no longer felt like an escape; it felt like an obligation. For a while, I wondered if I had lost my love for it completely. Looking back, I realize it wasn’t that I stopped loving to read — it was that I needed different kinds of books, stories that spoke to where I was in life."
