Last weekend we laughed out loud and smiled until our cheeks hurt.
A huge congratulations to the entire cast and crew who brought us a brilliantly clever Scotland Island adaptation of Michael Frayn's Noises Off. The play is apparently one of the most celebrated farces ever written and has become a staple of community theatre around the world.
So, after five months of rehearsals and four sold-out performances, our little island community proved once again that extraordinary things happen when ordinary neighbours come together.
Produced by Roy Baker and Jessica G McGowan, adapted for the Scotland Island stage by Roy Baker, and expertly directed by Paul Kininmonth, the show was a masterclass in comic timing, organised chaos, slamming doors, mistaken identities and perfectly executed mayhem. We were exhausted!
|
What makes it even more special is knowing that the people having us in stitches are the very same neighbours we see on the ferry, at the café, collecting the mail or walking their dogs. Then, somehow, they transform into accomplished performers and give us an entertaining evening of memorable theatre.
Bravo to every actor, and the big production crew backstage wizardry, set builders, costume maker, lighting and sound, photography, front-of-house volunteers, stage manager, and everyone else who helped bring this production to life - thanks so much!
What talent, commitment and generosity! It makes Scotland Island the wonderfully creative place it is.
Here's hoping the next production is already in the works!

Surfboat Brewery, Warriewood

Friday 10 & Saturday 11 July, 7.30 pm
|
The Pittwater Offshore community's own Flaming Doghouse Showband are bringing the music of Pink Floyd to Surfboat Brewery, Warriewood, for two special performances on Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July.
The eight-piece band has spent more than two decades performing Pink Floyd's music, developing a reputation for recreating the band's landmark albums with remarkable attention to detail. Their productions combine live music, projected visuals, theatrical elements, lighting and atmospheric effects to create an immersive concert experience.
The show features complete performances of Pink Floyd's 1979 masterpiece The Wall and the acclaimed 1975 album Wish You Were Here. Together, these albums span some of Pink Floyd's most enduring songs, including Another Brick in the Wall, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Run Like Hell.
|
Many Pink Floyd fans, along with members of the band themselves, regard Wish You Were Here as Pink Floyd's finest artistic achievement. It remains one of the most celebrated recordings in rock history.
The intimate brewery setting offers a rare opportunity to experience this music at close range. Surfboat Brewery (Upstairs Showroom) can be found at 14 Jubilee Avenue, Warriewood.
