What's the one thing you would change about Scotland Island?

As you might know, Boyd Attewell was moving around the festival asking people two questions; what would be the one thing they would change about the island, and what was the one thing they would keep the same.
Here is a quick compilation of answers to the first question.

The humour and quirkiness of the islanders can't help but shine through on this stunning winters day.

    Kids on the Coast
Pittwater Council’s Winter Program set to revitalise the cooler days

During the July school holidays the Coastal Environmental Centre (CEC) is heating things up with some fantastic adventures.

Winter is a great time to explore our beautiful coast.  Whales are migrating to warmer waters, making it an ideal time to get up-close-and-personal with the wonders of our natural environment.

Monday 30 June - The Nutty Professor

Put on your lab coat and enter the Nutty Professor’s Lab at the CEC! We’ll discover what’s happening in the world of science and learn how to answer questions using the Scientific Method – just like real scientists!

    Tuesday 1 July - Washed-up Coastal Survivor

Imagine being marooned on a deserted island.  Enjoy a fun outdoor adventure where, as castaways, we explore our local beaches and bushland looking for ways to survive in the natural environment.  Learn about finding food, water and shelter as well as some great bushcrafts using materials we find along the way.

Wednesday 2 July - Art Workshop

Get inspired these holidays and create some amazing and special pieces.  A professional artist will guide you in creating some amazing artworks. This is a fantastic opportunity for any budding Picassos to learn some artistic techniques and let your inner artist grow!  These two special workshops will focus on the coast and will let you experiment with lots of different techniques.

Monday 7 July - Reptile Romp

Are you interested in reptiles?  Would you love the chance to meet some of our scaly friends? Come to the CEC and learn about our native reptiles and get the chance to meet them up close.  Some of these guys are the closest thing to a living dinosaur!

    Tuesday 8 July - Nutty Professor’s Lab

Enter the Nutty Professor’s Lab at the CEC.   Can you make something move without touching it? Can you send secret messages with a lemon? Does water have a skin?  We’ll discover what’s happening in the world of science and learn how to answer questions using the Scientific Method – just like real scientists!

Wednesday 9 July - The Not so Scary world of Sharks & Wild about Whales

Come to the CEC and learn more about our creatures of the deep. Find out about our friends the sharks and what makes them so special for our oceans. We will also have a whale of a time learning all about the many interesting features of the largest animal on earth.

Thursday 10 July Rock - Platform Rambles

Ever wondered what lives in a rock pool? We’ll have a great adventure exploring the coastline and all the amazing creatures that call our rock pools and rock platform home.

Friday 11 July - Beachcombing Investigators

Enjoy a day beachcombing and other fun activities by the sea. We’ll learn what lives in the lagoon and what gets washed up on the shore. Begin at the “Kids on the Coast” HQ by examining our collection of specimens and touch-table, before embarking on a trail of discovery to find your very own washed up treasures.

Time: All activities run from 10:00am - 3:00pm
    Cost:  $55.

The Co-Op Club Proudly Presents July Bookings
    at Church Point Cafe

    Artists play between 3-6pm

    image
    Sun July 6:  Liza Ohlback
Liza Ohlback covers all styles of blues, including jazz, gospel, soul & swamp. With a voice that can growl, howl or soothe your furrowed brow this 2013 triple blues ‘Chain Award’ winner for her album Trouble Goin Down can deliver her unique style with frankness and a wicked sense of humour. She will be joined by Rick Melick on keys/vox, Chris Frazier bass and Greg Ohlback on drums/vox.

...”Liza is a class act…”  -  Brian Lizotte

    Sun July 13:  The Fieldimage
The Field is a band and their music is a meeting place of styles. You can hear jazz, blues, country and Celtic influences with hints of Ry Cooder and Bill Frisell as well as Little Feat and the more obscure Celtic leanings of Pentangle and Richard Thompson. Canadian born slide guitarist and the band’s founder Bruce Reid also plays guitar with Sydney’s renown jazz group The Catholics and is the guitarist for the legendary Oz rock band Dragon and has also worked  alongside singer Wendy Matthews for well over a decade.

..”The Field’s music is immediately friendly, drawing the listener in with it’s obvious warmth and drawling geniality. With greater familiarity we find that, while it is by no means urban music, nor is it quite country. Perhaps it may be best described as Arcadian, given it’s pervasive stillness and radiant sense of contentment..”  John Shand – SMH

Sun July 20:  The Sly Dogsimage
Scotland Island locals and the Co-Op Club house band return to give you your monthly dose of rockin soul blues…a great way to end your weekend and start your week.

Sun July 27:  The Rob Woolf Trio
The Rob Woolf Trio featuring Rob Woolf on keys & vocals, Rowan Lane bass & Miles Thomas on drums have collectively played with a who’s who of Australian talent from Diesel to Karise Eden, from hip hop artist Phrase to Luke Steele or Silverchair and Ms Murphy.  They have backed the Jamaican Rocksteady great, Stranger Cole, blues legend Eugene Bridges, and are members of the best- loved reggae outfit, King Tide. Their performance at the Co-Op Club will give us a taste of a more bare bones approach playing the music they love from Jamaica, New Orleans with blues and soul from Memphis and Chicago.
