Hello Gordon Mote Fans!

Hope you are all doing well through this first month of 2024! It is amazing how time flies! The year has started off good and very busy and we are so grateful.

I read a quote again this morning and believe it to be from the great Bible teacher, Warren Wiersbe. It says “God in His Grace gives us what we do not deserve, and in His Mercy does not give us what we do deserve.” I’m going to try and keep that in mind this year!

In addition to our Gospel events to date, Gordon Mote was musical director for taping a star studded event at Belmont University on January 17.

It was a messy and cold night in Nashville. Due to heavy snow and frigid temperatures, many roadways were still packed with snow and ice and schools were closed all week long. But that did not dampen the enthusiasm of fans as they came out to celebrate Country Music Hall Of Fame members, Alabama!! All the crew, the band, guest artists and Alabama were ready and Country Music Television (CMT) made the decision to go ahead with a special taping as scheduled.

Gordon Mote stated, "although weather and technical difficulties interfered with some rehearsal time, the music and taping was accomplished without a hitch. Not one time was it necessary to restart a performance for taping"! In addition to responsibilities of Music Director for the entire event, Gordon played piano and sang with most of the guest artists.

Mega stars adjusted schedules and braved the weather to honor super group Alabama in this special taping of CMT Giants: Alabama. Other superstars who came to honor and perform some of Alabama’s biggest hits in person were Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Old Dominion, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town, Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan, Riley Green and Sam Hunt. Belmont University’s Fisher Center For The Performing Arts was the site for the taping.

Others sharing personal stories relating to Alabama both in-person and virtually, were Evander Holyfield, Lionel Ritchie, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride and Vince Gill.

In his introduction, Blake told the crowd watching the show, “Tonight we honor Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and the late Jeff Cook, the undisputed greatest country band of all time, Alabama.” “I know it’s tough not having Jeff here with us, but he lives on in our hearts and in the incredible music you guys created together.”

Jeff passed away in November of 2022 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Alabama has a streak that will most likely never be equaled. From 1980 through 1987 Alabama garnered an incredible 21 consecutive #1 hits!!!

For the final act of the evening, Evander Holyfield brought Randy and Teddy to the stage to thunderous cheering and applause. This continued for several minutes before the crowd quieted enough for Randy to say “I had no idea anybody would show up. I didn’t think there would be anybody in the audience. It’s freezing outside, in case you guys didn’t know.” Teddy added, “I think it’s our Alaskan fan club here tonight.” They then performed two of their biggest songs.

This show will air on CMT at a date to be announced this Fall.

Jeff Cook, Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry

Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry

Gordon Mote and Alabama native and four time Heavyweight Champion, Evander Holyfield
