Next week we shave a return visit to BPS by Martin Fry FRPS FBPE EFIAP/d3 AV-EFIAP/b APAGB from Cheltenham, when he will give his talk ‘The Seeing Eye’.
Martin takes us on a journey as he explores what inspires his photography. For him there is nothing better than going out and just looking and capturing a moment in time, inspired by the beauty of his native Gloucestershire to the rugged coastline of the Cornish Peninsula.
A very active international exhibitor, he has gained over 4000 acceptances in 40 countries and some 500 awards.
|
|
As well as taking individual images, Martin is one of the leading audio-visual workers in the Country. This passion stems from his love of photography and combining images, in particular the "magical" third image. The journey will follow his path from Artist to Excellence in FIAP Distinctions, interspersed with some award-winning audio-visuals.
Martin is an Honorary Life Member of Cheltenham Camera Club and a founding member of the Cheltenham International Salon of Photography.
You can see more of Martin's images by visiting his Instagram page:

The position of BPS Newsletter Editor is about to become vacant. The present incumbent of this prestigeous role, namely me, has done the job since 2012 producing 699 editions and it now seems, with the 700 edition milestone approaching, to be the ideal time to hand over the reins to someone else.
If you feel that you could take on this important club role, please drop me a line at bpsnewsletter@bristolphto.org.uk and I will be able to fill you in in greater detail as to what the job entails.

On 17 October, there will be a preview of the documentary Whispers in the Woods, at Bristol Megascreen for Wildscreen Festival. There will be further screenings in Bristol during its general release from 13 November. Directed by acclaimed nature photographer-filmmaker Vincent Munier, the film is an ode to the wildlife that shaped his life, the voice of the forest and the beauty of generational bonds. Here are some more details about the film: SYNOPSIS After The Velvet Queen (2021), celebrated wildlife photographer Vincent Munier invites us into the heart of the Vosges forests. It is here Vincent’s father Michel, a naturalist, taught him everything. Now, it is time for them to pass on this wisdom to Vincent’s son, Simon. Three perspectives, three generations, and a shared fascination for wildlife. With them, we discover deer, rare birds, foxes and lynxes... and sometimes, the beating of wings of the mythical animal: the capercaillie. ORIGINAL MUSIC BY Warren Ellis, Dom La Nena & Rosemary Standley STARRING The Western Capercaillie, The Red Deer, Michel Munier, The Eurasian Lynx, Simon Munier, The Winter Wren ABOUT THE DIRECTOR Vincent Munier was born in Épinal, in the Vosges region of France, in 1976. He won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award, presented by London's Natural History Museum, in 2000, 2001, and 2002, becoming the first photographer to win the prize three consecutive years. Over the following two decades he became one of the world's foremost wildlife photographers, publishing more than twenty books and receiving numerous international awards for his imagery. His debut feature The Velvet Queen (co-directed with Marie Amiguet, 2021), won the César for Best Documentary Film.
