Christmas fast approaches, and this is our last issue of Animal Magic for 2016. It’s been a busy year for Hubble & Hattie with lots of fabulous books joining the family – Worzel Wooface, our literary Lurcher, Tara the intrepid sailor, Mike&Scrabble … and lots more besides.
Next year we welcome Ollie and Nina, two daft-as-a-brush doggies, whose dippy doggie doings are recalled in cartoon-form by their daft Dad, Neil. There’ll be further tips from Scrabble for training your human, and now Mike’s getting in on the act with his book Harry and his Grownups: A guide to training parents.
All of us at H&H HQ wish you and your animal companions a peaceful, loving Christmas, and a very happy new year, and look forward to welcoming you along for the ride in 2017!
Please contact me at if you’ve any comments or points you’d like to make: I’d love to hear from you!
Jude Brooks,
Hubble & Hattie Christmas donation
This year, as usual, instead of sending Christmas cards, or making a cash donation, Hubble & Hattie has liaised with local charity, Margaret Green, discovered just what it’s in need of – and has just delivered the goodies below to them!

So, in Santa’s Sack, there will be salt licks (Himalayan and red mineralised), brushes and yard brooms, lead ropes, and tasty treats – and a fabulous horse ball feeder that not only the horses can use, but which the pigs and goats will enjoy too!
Happy Christmas to all the animals at Margaret Green.

Worzel Wooface … the quite very actual hinterview
Catherine Pickles – Worzel's quite very actual Mum – talks about Worzel's second year in his forever home … and life during the 'Terribibble Twos!'

Christmas ideas from Hubble & Hattie

We’ve the perfect recipe for holiday mirth in the shape of everyone’s favourite literary Lurcher (and a quite very actual superstar), Worzel Wooface. Worzel is a bit of a celeb on social media, and with two books to enjoy, each covering a year in Worzel's hectic life, you'll find out why he's so … FABUMAZING! … who's a luffy boykin, then?

If you’re in the mood for a heart-warming book to snuggle down with, light the fire and grab a copy of My dog, my friend for a real feel-good book, and a real do-good book, too, with author royalties donated to Samaritans.

"Adventure," I hear you cry … "I WANT ADVENTURE!" … then you’ll need a copy of Tara – The terrier who sailed around the world, a book full of tales of nautical derring-do and adventure on the high seas.

Speaking of fascinating, every Man Shed – and Ma’am Shed – should have a copy of Chris Blazina’s When Man Meets Dog. Have you ever wondered why dogs are considered ‘man’s best frend?’
Psychologist Dr Christopher Blazina explains the importance of the unique bond between men and dogs. There are widely-held beliefs that males naturally transition into a state of self-imposed seclusion and emotional detachment in adulthood (I thought it was just me!). This book explores how the bond with animal companions bypasses many of these barriers, helping males develop into happier, healthier men. What a difference a dog can make!
It’s also a National Indie Excellence Awards winner … a great book.
When it comes to bonds between animals and humans, there are few that require such careful attention as that between Babies, kids and dogs … and Melissa Fallon and Vickie Davenport’s book of the same name is just the ticket for these particular bonds.
It has all the vital information and guidance you need on how to develop safe, harmonious relationships between children and dogs, from step-by-step exercises, to educational illustrations featuring 'Charlie and Champ,' to engage children.
The book is written with the animal's welfare needs in mind, and this really is essential reading for all parents, or families with children and dogs.
The authors are canine trainers and behavourists, as well as parents, and – take it from us – they really know their stuff!

Of course, no Christmas would be complete without a little mystery and spookiness. Gods, Ghosts and Black Dogs takes a look at the long and fascinating history of mythology and folklore surrounding dogs. From the spooky, to the sensible, this book from Dr Stanley Coren is packed with facts, history and humour aplenty, from all over the world.
Of course, that's just a small selection of stocking fillers … browse our shop, and take a look … you might find the perfect present for your loved ones. Or yourself!

And remember: Hubble & Hattie isn't just for Christmas!
Say Hello to Ollie & Nina
Two real dogs … lots of daft doggy doings

Ollie and Nina are real dogs. They do what all real dogs do. Neil Sullivan – their Dad – has taken to illustrating their antics in comic-strip form, and we thought we'd share some with you over the coming months.

Coming next year … more daft doggie doings from Ollie and Nina!
