September can be a time of reflection, and in this issue of Animal Magic, Kathie Gregory, author of our book A tale of two horses, recalls how her innovative free will teaching method was key in helping Charlie and Star – her two ex-racehorses – settle happily into life on the farm with her, husband Matt, and their dogs, after their previous, somewhat traumatic, racing life.
There’s more news about Tara, the totally fearless, sea-faring salty sea dog who spent most of her life on the yacht Deusa, sailing the seas with Rosemary and Robert Forrester, very much a part of each and every adventure – good and bad – that they experienced.
But the star of this month’s issue simply has to be that lovable 'Lurcher with issues,' Worzel Wooface, as we celebrate not only the publication of his brand new book – The quite very actual Terribbible Twos, as Woo embraces his teen years with his usual enthusiasm and ensuing chaos, but also his starring role on the front cover of October’s issue of Dogs Today – check out the feature inside!

Jude Brooks,
Kathie Gregory
A passion for free will teaching
Kathie Gregory is no stranger to animals of all species – dogs, cats, sheep, ducks, etc … you name it – and in her book, A tale of two horses, Kathie relates the story of how she developed a special bond with two ex-racehorses … and created a very special method of horsemanship: FreeWillTeaching™.
FreeWillTeaching focusses on an animal’s own cognition and emotional intelligence, helping them to manage their emotional responses and behaviour themselves.
Less a 'system' and more a general way of behaving and interacting with animals, the benefits of FreeWillTeaching are many – for both animal and human.
We wanted to know more, so we interviewed Kathie to find out how she came to write the book … and about FreeWillTeaching.
You can read our interview with Kathie on our blog, here.
Kathie also has a great new website, where you can read about the type of animal behaviour work she undertakes, what FreeWillTeaching can do for you and your animals, or simply catch up with Kathie on Twitter and Facebook
We love the site, so why not head over to and check it out for yourself?

A tale of two horses
Kathie Gregory brings horsemanship right up-to-date, with positive, reward-based methods … the truly kind and humane approach to working with horses that provides huge benefits for you and your horse.

Following two ex-racehorses over the course of a year, as they go from being reactive and unable to be handled, to calm, well balanced, contented equines, you’ll get to know the personalities of Charlie and Star, as they make the transition from racing to home environment.

Quite very actually a COVER STAR!
Worzel Wooface (Worzel to his friends … Woo to a few) needs no introduction to Hubble & Hattie followers, but he’s about to be unleashed upon an even wider audience, with a quite very actual cover shoot for Dogs Today magazine! Yes – you heard us correctly – Worzel is the latest cover model for the magazine, and is appearing on the front of the October issue.
Of course, we’ve known of Worzel’s superstar status for ages. Now, though, he’s about to hit the doggy big-time and join the ranks of TV stars, VIPooches, and other celebrity canines, with his very own photoshoot.
Dogs Today magazine is the UK’s leading ethical dog magazine, and is a great read, even without Worzel on the cover.
Of course, such fame can go to one's head. How is he coping with his new-found coverstar celebrity? We contacted Worzel's Press Department, which put us through to Worzel's Media Officer, who helped us get in touch with the Secretary for Worzel's Personal Assistant, who was most helpful, and gave us a quote directly from Worzel's Private Aid … JUST KIDDING!
Worzel is too down-to-earth to become such a hard-to reach celeb ... here's what he says about becoming Dogs Today's latest cover star …

"I'm a quite very actual fame-mouse cover star!"

Yes, Worzel: you most certainly are!

A double-dose of Worzel!
There's just so much Worzel that one book is simply NOT enough.
But then, he is after all, a quite very actual superstar!

Tara launches!
If you're a regular reader of our blog and newsletter, you'll know all about Tara, the terrier who sailed around the world.

For animal lovers everywhere – and especially those who like travel and sailing boats – this is an emotional and uniquely entertaining tale.
Tara – The terrier who sailed around the world is the exciting, touching – not to mention extraordinary – story of a Jack Russell who had at least nine lives – and many more adventures – with her owners, Rosemary and Robert Forrester, as they sailed around the world on a yacht.
Last month, Robert and Rosemary were joined by members of the public – both two- and four-legged – for the book's official launch, hosted at Daunt Books' Chelsea premises.
With drinks and nibbles, and much talk of Tara's nautical antics (not to mention a few of Robert and Rosemary's own), an enjoyable time was had by all, and the chance to meet and talk with the authors was a real treat.
We'd like to say a big 'Thank You' to everyone at Daunt Books, and to all who came along to find out more. And, of course, to Robert and Rosemary, who have an almost inexhaustable supply of tales from their many adventures with Tara.

As well as officially launching the book, there is now also a dedicated website – – where you can find out how the book began and purchase a copy online … there's plenty of photos of Robert, Rosemary, and Tara, too!
Of course, not everyone could make it to the launch, so we've created a video of Robert and Rosemary talking about this fantastic book … click here or on the thumbnail below to view it on YouTube.

You can keep up with all the latest Tara news on the Tara the terrier facebook page, or visit @taratheterrier's twitter feed.
Buy the book online at Hubble & Hattie (link below) … or from really, really good bookshops ... like Daunt Books, of course!
