From the Director
1)  Great rehearsal last night.  Please continue to work at home and mark the beats in difficult passages.  If we all focus and work on our “spots,” we’ll have a spectacular performance of this magnificent work!

2)  **SPECIAL EXTRA REHEARSAL** for anyone who can make it:  this coming Monday, April 27, 7-9 PM at the auditorium of Kendal at Ithaca (https://sites.google.com/site/cbc14850/meetings/parking-at-kendal).  If anyone needs a ride or knows they'll need help finding the auditorium, please email Kate at iccpres@acithaca.org.

3)  Those singers who volunteered to lend music stands, please tape your name on the score side of the stands and bring them to St. Paul’s sanctuary at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, April 29 (or drop them off during the day).  Many thanks.

4)  Since there has been some concern about the chorus being overshadowed by the orchestra, I suggest that singers tell their friends not to sit too close.  The balcony is an excellent spot both aurally and visually.

5)  Part of the concert program is attached.

CONCERT WEEK SCHEDULE (meet upstairs in the sanctuary):

Wednesday, April 29 6:45-9:30 PM

Friday, May 1 6:45-9:30 PM

Saturday, May 2 6:30 PM warmup, 7:30 PM concert

Chamber Singers 6 PM each night
Post-Concert Reception
. . . for audience members, singers, and orchestra members will be held in the Memorial Room (to the rear of the sanctuary) immediately following the concert.  If you are able, please consider contributing a food item to share, as follows:

- finger foods only (nothing that needs serving or eating utensils)

- stable at room temperature (no heating or refrigeration needed)

- pre-cut into small servings

- presented on/in a serving plate/dish that can go directly onto the table (labeled with your name if you want it back)

- a card listing any special attributes is super helpful (e.g., gluten free, vegan)

Please bring your contributions to the Memorial Room between 6:00 and 6:30 on the night of the concert.

To Be Completed Before the Concert
1)  Put your music in a black folder or cover it with black paper before the first orchestra rehearsal on Wednesday.

2)  Turn in all money from ticket sales, and all unsold tickets, no later than Friday's rehearsal

3)  The choir loft can be close quarters, so in addition to the good basic hygiene that we all already practice, please remember NOT to wear fragrances on either your person or your clothing, as some folks are sensitive to them.

4)  Make sure your concert clothes are ready:  plain, solid black, in long sleeves, pants, and skirts.  Black socks/tights, comfortable black shoes.  No sheer fabrics, daring neck- or hemlines, or colorful or sparkly accessories.

Kate's Corner

It was nice to hear and feel the pieces falling into place at our rehearsal last night, and to see Gerald smiling!  I hope that many of you will be able to make our extra rehearsal on Monday evening next week.  As our confidence grows, it shows! Perhaps it has been your experience, as it has been mine, that the accomplishments that meant the most to me are those I had to work hardest for. By that measure, performing A Sea Symphony will rank right up there among my proudest musical accomplishments!

I asked Gerald to explain what he meant by “marking the beat” in our scores, and he sent me the attached example.  The visual markings showing when we enter right on the beat or between beats are super helpful, especially for difficult passages.  Give it a try!

All good things eventually come to an end, and so it is with our semester-long discovery of the songs that we would listen to for the rest of our lives if we had to choose just one song.  Here are the rest of the responses:

Elsie Rawlins             "Stand By Me" (Ben E. King)

     Marcie Bishop            Brahms’ Requiem

Jennifer D-B               Rite of Spring (Stravinsky)

     Ellen Harrison            Mozart’s Flute Concerto

     Lauren French           Mozart's Requiem

Suzanne C                Carmina Burana (Carl Orff)

Rest up this weekend! We have a big week coming up!
