LE TRAVAILLANT RETURNS TO THE MAPLE TREE INN, GUMBO: The backporch-style Cajun acoustic trio version of Le Travaillant will perform at one of our favorite Cajun restaurants, the Maple Tree Inn in Homewood. Sunday, February 8th 2-5pm Yes, we are well aware that this is on Super Bowl Sunday, but we'll be done in time for you to get home before the game starts. Come pre-game it like a pro! If you can't make the gigs, we do have an EP - Gumbo De Mon Père - for you to enjoy! The title track to Gumbo De Mon Père is based on a treasured Sellers family tradition that began some 50 years ago with my New Orleans-born father. TAUTOLOGIC - 25th ANNIVERSARY OF WEST IS NORTH, EAST IS SOUTH: My rock band Tautologic’s debut album, West Is North, East Is South, turned 25 in June. I'm featuring a song from the album in each month's newsletter. “The Verdict” was original Tautologic bassist Dan Veidlinger’s song. Dan left the band to complete his PhD research abroad. It took us a few years to reach our current equilibrium with bassist Nathan Britsch, whose tenure now stretches 20+ years. As is the case elsewhere on the album, I enjoy this track more than those I wrote/produced. For a song about over-thinking relationships, it doesn’t seem to be over-thought as a song. The intro goes on a little long, but otherwise no complaints. The melodies are stately. I seem to remember that I wrote “Best Day Of Your Life” while in the “vocal booth” - engineer Jon Heidelberger’s bedroom at Regents Park apartments in Hyde Park. Jon was futzing around with something in ProTools for a million years and I was ruminating on several recent romantic break-ups (mine, and a bandmate’s) and the song emerged more or less fully-formed in short order.
