Wow, I have so much to share with you!
On Saturday I finished editing and submitted my chapter on "Singing During Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum" which will be published in a book next year called Music & Motherhood, by Demter Press. On Sunday we played for the wonderfully appreciative congregation at Center for Spiritual Enlightenment in San Jose. On Tuesday, at the very last minute we made a video and entered NPR's Tiny Desk Contest. On Wednesday I was called in to sub for my friend Heather Houston to lead her Women Spirit Song Circle, a beautiful women's singing circle, like Womb Song, but not focused around birth. On Friday I finished my second week of teaching guitar and songwriting at the lovely music store, Sylvan Music in downtown Santa Cruz. On Saturday I woke to find myself on the front page of our local newspaper - The Press Banner - promoting the after school guitar classes I am teaching. And on Sunday, I went to women's morning at Kiva Baths & Spa, and had a hot tub!
Well, it's Monday again, and what I really want you to know is that I have this awesome show coming up on SUNDAY FEBRUARY 28TH at 4pm, at the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz. It's all ages, very affordable, and will include a live concert and then premier screening of my new music video for the beloved song, "Habit
". I also have a favor to ask if you live or know anyone in the Santa Cruz/South Bay Area: can you pick three friends and personally invite them to the show? Word of mouth is the best press there is. Thank you soooo much!
Here are the details on that:
WHAT: "Habit" Video Premiere & Celebration Concert with Amanda West
WHEN: Sunday February 28th, 4-5pm
WHERE: Resource Center for Nonviolence, 612 Ocean St., Santa Cruz, CA
WHO: Family-Friendly Concert, for Everyone!
TIX: $8 adults/$3 kids advance or $10 adults/$5 kids at the door
I'd also love for you to enjoy the music video we made for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest (I don't need votes or anything, I just think you'll like this new song of mine!). For years I'd been wanting to involve my music with NPR somehow, and this year, two hours before the deadline, we decided to go for it! The whole experience was an exercise in practicing imperfection (something I am working on, because, let's face it, life is imperfect!). Due to technical challenges and time constraints we ended up with ONE take, and this was it. It's part performance art, part music video.... See if about half way through you can find the little head that moves in and out of the bottom frame... Guess who's head that is! :-) We didn't plan it, I swear.
I'd also encourage you to check out other Tiny Desk Contest videos on the site ~ it's a beautiful sampling of current, independent American musical artists, and I'm stoked to be a part of it!
Well, I think that's enough for this month's newsletter! Sending you some big Valentine's Love in this season of hearts... Hoping yours is full, and that the edge of Springtime is finding its way to you, as the blossoms are appearing outside my window here as I write...
sending you love & light & song,
