New SEND School in Melksham Next Year
Melksham House in Melksham is set to become home to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as it helps address a need for more SEND places in Wiltshire.

Melksham House is expected to open next year as a primary school for SEMH needs (aged 4-11), as well as an alternative provision for children and young people up to 19 years old. The council has commenced the process to find a provider to deliver education for Wiltshire learners. No specific timeframe can be confirmed on when precisely the school will open, but the Council will share more details soon.

The new school is part of an expanding network of places for young people with SEND across Wiltshire to help meet growing demand and ensure all young people have an opportunity to thrive, and will offer more children and young people the opportunity to have their specialist education needs met closer to home, within Wiltshire.

Tell Contact about Your Summer Holiday Childcare and Activities
Do you have any childcare or activities planned for your child during the summer holidays? Is it what you wanted and needed?

Contact has teamed up with Disabled Children’s Partnership to launch a survey to find out about holiday club provision for disabled children this summer.

Positive experiences or difficulties encountered; they would love to hear from you.

Contact  will use the results to raise awareness of the situation and push for change nationally.

Have Your Say on Post-16 Provision in Wiltshire
Wiltshire Council Commissioning Team is currently working to identify what Post-16 special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision is available to our young people. To help them, they have created three questionnaires: -

Questionnaire 1: Pre-16This is for 14-16 year olds with SEND currently navigating the process of moving to their post-16 provision

Questionnaire 2: Post-16This for Post-16 young people with SEND to help Wiltshire Council understand what they experienced when they moved into post-16 provision.

Questionnaire 3: ProviderThis is for providers. Wiltshire Council would like to know more about the provision that is currently offered to Post-16 young people with SEND. This will allow Wiltshire Council to map the provision for young people and their families.

Have Your Say about a New Moving On Guide for Primary and Secondary Aged Children in Wiltshire with SEND.

Wiltshire Council  are planning to create a guide for Primary and Secondary school aged children with SEND. The guide will support children and young people to think about what might support them in moving onto Secondary school and other key points in time when growing up.   Thinking about your own experiences please take a few minutes to complete the short survey below which will help us to build a guide for young people. Making sure we have your voice is important and we thank you for your support in advance. Please complete by the 7th July 2023.

New Dementia Strategy – Have Your Say
Carer Support Wiltshire (CSW) are currently supporting Wiltshire Council with the development of its new dementia strategy. An important part of that is hearing the views of those people who live in Wiltshire and are caring for someone living with dementia.
You may already have completed their online survey but this is now your chance to join Wiltshire Council face-to-face to discuss your views on the support for carers of someone living with dementia. Wiltshire Police will also be in attendance to talk about a pilot coming to Wiltshire, implementing safety wristbands for someone living with dementia to support them in the community.

Coronavirus Information

Are you Concerned that your Child Might be Experiencing Long COVID Symptoms?

The WPCC is beginning to receive enquiries from some parent carers concerned their children may be experiencing Long COVID. We recently became aware of this online resource called Long Covid Kids which might be helpful.

Long Covid Kids has been connecting and supporting families, children and young people living with Long Covid since October 2020. Families using their support services have reported that connecting with other families sharing a similar experience to them has been “a lifeline”. Long Covid Kids say they recognise the challenges that families are facing; their team are living them too.

In Spring 2022, they launched two new free members’ services for families and children; to help them adhere to their safeguarding policy, their online support services require pre-registration. Click HERE to register.

Support and services provided by Long Kids Covid include: -
  • Facebook Group: providing peer to peer support for families of children & young people living with Long Covid.
  • LCK Connected: Zoom Hangouts hosted by their team of volunteers for children and teenagers from 6 - 17 years, and the parents and caregivers who care for them.
  • CHATBOX: an online forum that welcomes children and teenagers from age 8 - 17 years, and the parents and caregivers who care for them. Separate age-appropriate channels.
