PWDA Alert
  Friday 31 January 2014
Dear ,
As we informed you a couple of weeks ago, advocacy work has recently increased around the Business Services Wage Assessment Tool (BSWAT). This is used in Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs) to reduce the wages of workers with disability

The Association of Employees with Disability (AED) Legal Centre in Melbourne has been at the centre of the legal cases around the BSWAT – both the 2012 case that found the BSWAT in breach of the DDA in the case of Gordon Prior and Alan Nojin, and the current class action (with Maurice Blackburn Lawyers).
Looking for Your Stories
To support AED Legal’s work in this matter, we are seeking the stories of workers who are currently or have in the past been assessed under the BSWAT. If you or anyone you know have been assessed by the BSWAT, please contact Samantha French, Advocacy Projects Manager on, or by calling the number below to tell us your story, on or before Tuesday 4 February 2014.
Show Your Support
On Monday 17 February 2014, the legal case kicks off! You are welcome to attend and show your support for workers with disability in ADEs. There will be a Hearing, regarding the letter that the Department of Social Services wanted to send to workers in ADEs explaining the BSWAT payment scheme. There will also be Directions, which is essentially the very beginning of the court case itself, which will finally decide whether the BSWAT is discriminatory in its use in ADEs.
The case will likely run for many months, so you will have lots of chances to attend before the judgement is finally handed down. Let's show the court and the country that the whole community is concerned about the current discrimination against workers with disability.
The case will be held at the Federal Court in Melbourne, which is located on the corner of William and LaTrobe Streets. Details can be found here: If you require support, you may wish to contact the court:
