Air tickets to Cabarete at a DISCOUNT !

If you were considering to come and sail with us in Cabarete, between now and the end of February 2013,  the next three days are the best time to buy your air tickets. Check out American Airlines:

Caribbean Flight Deals - Fall & Winter

The nearest airport to Cabarete is Puerto Plata (POP) connecting at
Miami. But American Airlines also flies to Santiago (STI) which is 1.5 hours drive from Cabarete, and even to Santo Domingo (SDQ). Usually we would not recommend to fly to Santo Domingo, as it is a 4 hours drive to Cabarete, but with these air fares, it may make sense for a group sharing the taxi cost.

Will we see the Schiedt- Slingsby heavy-weight fight at the 2016 Olympic games?
Is Lebron better than Jordan? I guess sport fans around the world will never know. But, the other question is Slingsby better than Schiedt? may get an answer if the two will represent their countries in the Laser event at the 2016 Rio Olympic games.
But, there is a rumor around the dock, that Brazil will try to host a Star class event in the games, even though the Star is officially not part of the IOC program.
How can this be done?
The Olympic Games require around 72-80 nations to be recognized as an international sport and they must have held a World Championship or two for inclusion into the Olympics. For the Winter Games, the standard is about 40 nations.

Countries and host city have the right to choose a  cultural program. That program has included official and unofficial demonstration sports in the past. This has included the following:

1. Tennis and Baseball at the 1984 LA Games
2. Curling at the 1988 Calgary Winter Games
3. Sumo Wrestling at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games
4. Rodeo at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games
5. Cheerleading at the 2006 Torino Winter Games

Will Star class be number 6 on the list?

If it will, we assume Schiedt will sail the Star, but hope he sails the Laser.

A good example of Full Sprint Hiking at the start, is demonstrated by the sailor on boat USA on the right in the picture above. Shoulders far out , straight back almost touching the water, hips forward and straight (extended) legs to create the maximum leverage possible for keeping the boat flat and fast.

Head coach Rulo's observation and tips, on his return from coaching at the 2012 London Olympic games.

The top sailors are getting fitter and now the battle to get off the start-line is getting longer.

The three first minutes following the starting gun are the most important three consecutive minutes of the race. The ability to hold your lane will allow you to execute your game-plan, but if forced to tack, a big part of your upwind strategy will be limited.

At this point of the race, it is all about beating the boats just leeward and windward of you. Therefore your concentration should be 100% on boat-speed.
FULL SPRINT HIKING is what it is all about. To maintain a “hole” for clear air, and a lane after the start, tighten your Vang / Kicker to about 85% of your upwind settings at the moment you start the acceleration process. Avoid  bending  into the boat after the start, to pull in the vang, while the sailors next to you are in full sprint hiking mode!

In the last Olympic games we saw the difference between the sailors who were able to outlast the boats next to them off the line, and the boats that had to tack.

Give it all during the first three minutes and then the rest of your race will be easier!

What's coming up?
