Dear Neighbors,
As we head to the Holidays ⛄️here are your updates.
Uptown Farmers’ Market Update
I am pleased to share some good news: Hudson County has agreed to keep the Uptown Farmers' Market at its current location under the County viaduct for the long term!
I have been a vocal advocate (and regular customer) of the Uptown Farmers’ Market since it first opened at its present location in 2020 during COVID’s dark days. As your Councilman, I know how appreciated the market is and recognize all it adds to the 5th Ward and our neighborhood. Over the past weeks, I have continued to communicate with Hudson County officials, my City Council colleagues, and Mayor Bhalla’s Administration concerning these issues. Most importantly, I have heard from and communicated with many of you about how much you value and appreciate the market. Your voices were heard.
The County and City have secured the location of the Uptown Farmers’ Market below the viaduct while accommodating other popular recreational uses under the County viaduct, such as public pickleball and futsal courts. This agreement ensures that the County’s Viaduct Park remains a dynamic community hub for social and recreational activities.
Thanks to Hudson County Executive Craig Guy for his leadership in this effort and thanks to so many patrons of the market for speaking out and helping us land on a long-term understanding that ensures the Uptown Farmers’ Market will remain at its current location.
Governing as an Eight-Person Council
With the tragic death of Council President Jen Giattino, Hoboken’s governing body has transitioned from nine to eight members. Pursuant to New Jersey law, the 6th Ward Council seat will remain vacant until the next general election—November 4, 2025. Working as a Council of eight presents challenges, as there is no “tiebreaker” for 4-4 votes. This dynamic requires collaboration, cooperation, and compromise to do the City’s work.
I am committed to continue engaging with all Council members, focused on our shared goals — addressing critical infrastructure and resiliency, improving public services, enhancing our quality of life, and wisely spending taxpayer dollars. I know we will meet the challenges of the moment through collaboration and dedication, working for the people we serve.
Hoboken 🎅 Christmas Tree Lighting
Yesterday we celebrated the joyful Annual Christmas Tree Lighting🌲. Hosted by the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Business Alliance at 11th & Washington Streets, the event featured festive performances by Hoboken youth, the Goldenrod Chorale, and the always high-spirited Elvis the Elf. Santa Claus himself made a special appearance, delighting attendees of all ages.
With Elvis the Elf!
Hoboken Ransomware Attack Update
Hoboken experienced a ransomware incident in the early hours of Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The attack was detected promptly, allowing immediate action to contain and secure the City’s network. These steps included a temporary shutdown of the City's IT network, and a week-long disruption to City services as systems were methodically restored under expert guidance. The City is working closely with cybersecurity specialists and federal law enforcement on these issues. If the investigation reveals any personal information has been compromised, the City will notify impacted people and advise them to take immediate steps.
To assist those with concerns, the City has established a dedicated call center offering information, credit monitoring, and identity protection services. You can call 1-833-799-4365 Monday – Friday, 8 am to 8 pm for assistance.
