In several recent dreams, I have been doing something on a ship! No kidding! It’s kind of a blur what is going on, and mostly I think I’m confused and lost -- like, how did I get onto this ship and what am I doing here? No nightmares, no going down with the ship while “doing my duty,” and for that I am very grateful! I didn’t connect the dots until about a week ago, and I literally laughed out loud. Anyone else out there dreaming about the sea, or ships?
Last night you received your tickets to sell, as well as the blue complimentary ticket that allows you to attend the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble’s 50th Anniversary Concert on May 3, the day after our concert. Please consult the bright green card that you received for details. Our tickets make great gifts! Think Mother’s Day, or birthday or anniversary presents. If everyone, in their own little sphere of influence, can do their best promoting our concert and selling tickets, we may be able to pack the church and have an audience befitting ICC’s 50-year celebration. Post the digital concert announcement on your social media! Place a small stack of postcards on the front desk where you work, or hand them out at a social gathering. Take a poster and tack it up on a public bulletin board where you shop. Let’s get out there and light a fire under our community to come and feel “transcendent” for an hour or two, leaving worldly cares at the door. This is an important part of what makes our chorus the Ithaca COMMUNITY Chorus!
Also, please don’t let your copy of our donation appeal letter fall to the bottom of your bag, never to reappear until it’s much too late to mail. Try to think of someone in your life who supports you and loves the arts, and either give or mail the letter to them. For some this might be easy, for others this may be way outside of their comfort zone. Please, though, screw up your courage and take this small action on behalf of our chorus. Remember, in the words of Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” And far from changing the world, we are just trying to get our chorus onto more stable financial footing, so this should be VERY doable!
Now, I will shuffle the cards and pull out another set of assorted responses to the question, “What would you listen to if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life?”
Sheila Reakes "Lacrimosa" (Mozart Requiem)
Nick Spooner "Charleston Girl" (Tyler Childers)
MJ Florida Suite (Frederick Delius)
John Lewis Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1
Liza C "Unchained Melody"
Wendy Alberg "A Ceremony of Carols" (Britten)
Greg Busby "Sultans of Swing" (Dire Straits)
Beth Wise "Bolero" (Ravel)
It’s April 2 as I write this. We all know what’s happening on May 2! Let’s have a fantastic month, conquering the high seas AND this phenomenal music!
