Dear friends and neighbors:
There is so much more going on these days in and around our amazing city!  I’ll start here with a couple of events that are going on today/tomorrow, and will send a more comprehensive update later in the weekend on things like UDD, the Masterplan Re-exam, the new plastic bag ban, and getting rid of all those wires:

CONNECTINGlTHElDOTS:  HOBOKEN ELKS CAR WASH TODAY TO HELP CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS 10am – 3pm!!!!
When you drive by the gorgeous building at 1005 Washington St. and see the large bronze Elk statue, do you ever wonder what is inside and what the Hoboken Elks are all about?  The answer is very simple:
  • They are about benevolence – mainly helping children with disabilities, their families and veterans.
Today – from 10-3pm, the Elks are hosting a Car Wash in front of the Lodge.  For $10 you can get your car (and I bet you they would wash your bike or stroller…) and at the same time help children and families living with disabilities.  Funds go to the annual Holiday Children’s Party (a not-to-be-missed event whether you have children or not) and to afford children with special needs with the opportunity to attend Elks Camp Moore, in Northern NJ this summer.
This year, the Elks celebrate 150 Years of Service.  Our Hoboken Elks Lodge 74 is one of the oldest in the country dating back to 1906.  Click HERE to learn more.  The core principals of the Elks are Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity.  But when you speak with our local Elks, it is charity and benevolence that you feel the most.  They have activities throughout the year that are open to the public that raise money for their charitable efforts including, among others, Monday Night Football parties in the basement bar that are hosted by individuals and local restaurants.  They provide space for United Cerebral Palsy of Hudson County, host a number of events for Hoboken’s seniors and also rent their facilities for private events.  Giving is their foundation.

INTERNATIONAL SOCCER COMES TO HOBOKEN!  DO YOU WANT TO SEE THE NEXT MESSI OR RONALDO?
The LaLiga futbol league from Spain is holding the 4th annual LaLiga Promises International Tournament here in Hoboken this weekend at Sinatra Park.  What is this?  This is the junior teams (12 and under) of some of the world’s most famous futbol organizations playing against each other to determine the world champions.  HMAG has a great article giving more color including how you can watch on TV if you can’t make in person.  This is kinda a big deal...
Play began last night but continues today (Saturday) at 9 am and goes all day and tomorrow (Sunday).  The event is FREE and the following teams are playing:
FC Barcelona ll Real Madrid ll Atlético de Madrid ll Sevilla FC ll Villarreal CF ll Valencia CF ll RCD Espanyol ll Inter de Milán ll SL Benfica ll FC Oporto ll Liverpool FC ll JEF United ll Club América ll New York City FC ll New York Red Bulls ll Ironbound SC

VEGAN FAIR IN ELYSIAN PARK ON SUNDAY FROM 10am-4pm!
Vegan food has come so far and is so delicious!  Taking from La Vodega Market’s (the host) FB page – “Hoboken’s first ever Vegan Fair! Featuring a wide variety of local vegan vendors selling plant strong foods and products! There will be great music, fabulous giveaways, sustainable living and composting services, Health and wellness experts, face painter and balloon twister plus so much more! Curious about a plant powered lifestyle? Come out and see what it’s all about!”  Even if you are not yet at a point where you are fully committed to being a vegan, there is still so much to take from an event like this.

And as always, if you have any questions or want to discuss this or anything else, please feel free to call me at 201/208-1674.
