Maya Hayuk & Jen Stark This exhibition, aptly titled Double Rainbow Rainbow, focuses on symmetry, patterns, radiant colors and positive energy. Each artist works in a variety of mediums in which they evoke macro and micro science, holograms, and rorschach tests. The results are hypnotic, powerful, sacred and sensual. While both artists share a similar obsessiveness and boldness, Maya's process appears effortless and instinctive and Jen's is more calculated and predetermined. Together these artists will present a visual delight that will melt your face. Opening Reception: Thursday May 12th, 7 - 11pm ![]() Maya Hayuk is a muralist, painter, photographer, printmaker, video artist and musician who lives in Brooklyn, New York by way of San Francisco, Baltimore, Boston and Toronto. From her large-scale installations to small works on paper, her obsession with symmetry and nourishing color play out in what might be views from the Hubble Telescope, airbrushed nail art, Mexican woven blankets, Ukrainian Easter eggs, chandeliers, mandalas, rorschach tests and or holograms. Along with her solo work, Hayuk frequently collaborates with other artists and musicians. Her work has been exhibited and published extensively internationally in galleries, museums, on the streets and in various printed and electronic media.
Jen Stark "Counter Cosmo", Acid-free Paper, Wood, 30" x 30" x 5", 2011
Jen Stark was born in Miami, FL in 1983 and received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2005 where she majored in Fibers with a minor in Animation. Stark's practice is based on the concepts of replication and infinity, her artwork echoing patterns and intelligent designs found in nature. The artist's optically and formally baffling sculptures, animations and drawings are inspired by plants, outer space, and the theories of colour, math and science. Her creations incorporate a variety of materials which produce optically hypnotic effects not unlike traditional mandalas and sacred objects. Jen Stark has exhibited her works in various galleries around North America as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, the Girls' Club Collection, FL, and the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was a recipient of the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium's Visual and Media Artists Fellowship in 2008. Stark lives and works in Miami, Fl.
