Dear friends,

As the Summer winds down, our Community Engagement is heating up!

In our annual pilgrimage to Lincoln Center on 9/11, join us to see 100+ dancers in a prayer for peace at Buglisi Dance Theater's Table of Silence Project 9/11. Sign the petition for more dance, join the Dance Police or cast your vote for Dance Parade's theme!

Grateful for all the many ways to contribute to community,

Dancing Matters: Table of Silence Project 9/11 performance & discussion

After a Summer hiatus, Dance Parade kicks off its performance club by a visit to the 20th Annual Table of Silence Project 9/11 at Lincoln Center. This roughly one hour free outdoor event starts at 8am when the first plane struck the World Trade Center. It's a beautiful tribute created by former Dance Parade Grand Marshal Jacqulyn Buglisi and Buglisi Dance Theatre.  After the performance attendees who have registred for Dancing Matters reconvene to discuss.

Despite the 2017 repeal of the racist 1926 Cabaret Law that restricted dance to licensed venues, NYC's Zoning Laws still do not allow dance in any venue under 200 patrons. And venues above a 200 person capacity can exist only in high density commercial and manufacturing districts.

Beyond The Zone was Dance Parade's 2023 theme and reflects the need to remove "dancing" as an activity that needs to be regulated by zoning. We seek to have Mayor Adams & City Council adjust outdated zoning laws to allow dancing to flourish in all corners of the City, ending discriminatory and racist practices that have affected marginalized communities for nearly 100 years.

 Take Action!
