Now for the mushy part. Eight years ago I campaigned for the town council with two main goals: to help unify the community and to improve communication and transparency in our local government.
Soon thereafter, our website was improved, the meeting minutes were expanded to more accurately reflect the content of the council and planning commission meetings, a new recording system was installed so the meetings could be heard via our website, this email list was created, and later a facebook page was created.
Additionally, the division that once existed within the town is gone.
There are now many avenues to become involved in our town and to be aware of what is happening. I am proud to have had a small part in these improvements.
While we may not have agreed on everything over these last eight years, I have enjoyed serving and working for the residents of Huntsville, and am looking forward to receiving my paycheck of $8 tonight. Through it all, the decisions I have made over these years have always been with the goal of doing what I felt was the right choice for the citizens of Huntsville.
While I am not sure what I will do with all of my free time, my wife has plenty of "honey do's" that have been neglected over the years that should keep me off the streets for at least a few months.
This will be my last email and I am hopeful one of the 2014 council members will continue to provide you updates.
Thanks for your support and good luck in 2014.
