Samen met een groep van 6 medestudenten en 2 begeleiders van Tilburg University doe ik onderzoek naar vrouwen in de Nederlandse STEM-sector (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics).

Waarom onderzoek doen naar deze specifieke groep? Uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek blijkt dat vrouwen in een door mannen gedomineerde werkomgeving (wat in deze sector veel voorkomt!) eerder een burn-out krijgen of last hebben van burn-out klachten. In vergelijking met mannen in hetzelfde werkveld, maar ook in vergelijking met vrouwen die werkzaam zijn in een andere sector.
Het onderzoek bestaat uit een volledig anoniem (waarbij namen ook aangepast worden) interview, die zowel online als in real-life plaats kan vinden.

In het kort: ik zoek respondenten die aan de volgende 3 eisen voldoen:

• Werkzaam in Nederland binnen een van deze sectoren: Wetenschap, Technologie, Techniek of Wiskunde.
• Vrouw.
• Burn-out gehad, in een burn-out OF (ooit) burn-out klachten ervaren. Dit hoeft niet door een arts of werkgever vastgesteld te zijn en is dus volledig naar eigen ervaring.

Het onderzoek kan zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels worden gedaan.

ENW started these prizes several years ago, but it is noticeable that there are few nominations from mathematics for the five prizes available. Ars et Mathesis is a foundation of art lovers inspired by mathematics. We are 40 years old and, like every five years, we are organising an anniversary competition.
The assignment this time is to make a short video of no more than 90 seconds. Think of the short videos or clips we come across on all kinds of (social) media these days. Examples are Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts and TikTok.
The only requirement is that there is a connection to both mathematics and art (beauty).
The video may be filmed both horizontally and vertically. You can participate individually but also as a group. For example, as a school class.
You can submit your entry until 15 October 2023 at the latest. All nominees will be invited to the Ars et Mathesis day on Saturday 18 November 2023.

This year's theme is Decision-making under Uncertainty and we are happy to announce our keynote speaker is Kateřina Staňková, who will be speaking on “How to manage evolving systems: Stackelberg evolutionary game theory”.

There will be ample opportunity to be inspired, share ideas, and get connected. We will also be hosting the final for the Best Thesis in Applied Mathematics Award 2023.
