Another Demand To Warner Brothers Discovery is to Require Transparent Scores in the Sport of Lowriding and be More Culturally Sensitive

Phoenix, AZ --  Lowrider Car Shows are a competitive sport.  Score sheets are tallied and it should determine the Lowrider of the Year and other first, second, and third awarded classes in this game. As an investor of Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) shares, I feel the alarm must be sounded for standards to be raised in this sport for our community.Corruption and biased judging concerns were substantiated through multiple Ethics Points reports and/or emails made to WBD when Diana Malhis of WBD & MotorTrend was overseeing these reports before and after MotorTrend laid off 300+ employees this year. Like the NBA, the NFL, PGA tours, and the Olympics, Warner Bros ought to know Lowrider Car Shows have been a competitive sport for the Mexican American community since the 70s as several car show enthusiasts put their heart, soul, and money into car show competitions.  Numerous Ethics Points Report concerns regarding cultural appropriation have been made and the continued lack of transparency and accountability continues regarding the judging process.  To avoid the appearance of cronyism, nepotism, and biased judging, Warner Brothers must require all of their Lowrider Magazine licensees to display all scores and awards on their MotorTrend website.  One of their current WBD's licensees primarily has an apparel background with little lowriding experience (besides selling Lowrider-related apparel) and has relied on authentic members of the lowriding community to sell apparel and tickets at car shows.  On numerous occasions, Joe Ray of Original Lowrider has pointed out exploitation concerns to Warner Brothers while others in the Lowrider community have cultural appropriation concerns.

On March 13, 2024, Gibson Dunn Law Offices was notified about the gross lack of judging transparency since WBD's Lowrider licensee has no record of displaying scoring and awards in the 2023 and 2024 Tours.  Gone are the days for their licensee to use authentic Lowrider people as scapegoats.   2 EP reports were made regarding 2023 Best of Show Car when a “Traditional Car” was made into the Best of Show Car which does not comply with the judging rules Motorsports Showcase knows about here. When the Traditional Car Show owner brought this issue up to a judging representative, the response was, “Don’t worry about it.” Another EP report was made like this from a well-respected motorcycle custom builder and complaints similar to this go on and on. This is why scores and award winners in the WBD Lowrider-sanctioned shows must be displayed and transparent to avoid any appearance of bias and corruption. (besides selling Lowrider-related apparel) and has relied on authentic members of the lowriding community to sell apparel and tickets at car shows.  On numerous occasions, Joe Ray of Original Lowrider has pointed out exploitation concerns to Warner Brothers while others in the Lowrider community have cultural appropriation concerns.

When will WBD avoid cultural appropriation concerns and pick an authentic member of the Lowriding Community to be another Lowrider Licensee holder? Or will WBD choose the liability and the cultural appropriation route?

As it stands now it appears car show judges base and factor their decisions on picking winning cars depending on how many cars a car club brings in.  To avoid this appearance, the solution is for WBD to have their licensee judging staff simply scan all scores and awards for all to see who scored points and how according to the car show rules listed via MotorTrend.  Some of these cars are worth $500,000 or more and owners put years into their work and the very least WBD can do is ensure their licensees avoid unfair car show judging in the marketplace. We hope WBD will be more culturally sensitive for the pop culture begun by the Mexican American Community and elevate standards after being informed through their WBD Ethics Reporting System.
