LowSane !

Welcome to the world of breaking down the digital world! Yes, in our music production world, we are proud to record on 24bit and 192kHz to provide pristine audio for music lovers.

BUT... as we are, we are keen on crushing things as well, which means that LoFi audio quality is not a side effect of cheap Chinese child toys, but has become a creative tool in today's music creation and post-audio productions! Who could have thought of that in the 80ties when everybody screamed for 16bit instead of 8bit!
Yes, humans are creative and many years later the ‘LoFi’ sound sculpting became an art of its own.

Well, LowSane adapts to this creative process and adds some additional creative options like the ‘Disrupt Sphere’ to this world of crushing down the digital bits!
If offers in the audio route a Distortion module, Band Pass / Notch Filter, Lo-Fi section, Hi and low Pass Filters, and a Noise Gate.
These parameters can be controlled by the ‘Disrupt Sphere’, and additionally there is also an Audio Follower which again can control the “Disrupt Sphere” or any of the other parameters.

Last but not least there is a 2-slot modulation matrix in which you can connect again parameters, or use MIDI to control parameters and also the ‘Disrupt Sphere’.
With LowSane you get your bits and pieces together going LoFi!

About Prisma.

PRISMA provides the Rob Papen ‘sound garden’ with ways of providing terrific tone colors by combining Rob Papen plugins into a single ‘prismatic’ sound source. Powerfully, PRISMA stores those combined software instruments and all their respective settings as a single preset. Seriously smart features of note include individual VELOCITY or KEYB. RANGE (keyboard range) split layers for creative combinations.

Try picturing a PRISMA preset with a pad from BLUE, together with an arpeggiated sound from Predator combined with a cutting-edge sound from Blade and adding a groove from Punch… picture perfect!

But Prisma is more than stacking...The MCP page which stands for ‘Multi Control Page’ allows the user to shape Prisma patches by using 4 faders to control multiple parameters of the layers. Dynamic changes in the sound add an additional dimension to this stunning product.

Last but not least PRISMA also has four top-quality FX onboard, allowing users to bypass the individual software instruments’ built-in effects to save on computer resources, ready for building picture-perfect PRISMA sounds!
So, if you seek Super Pads, textures for Film scores or Game music, EDM stacked/layered sounds… Prisma will shine a light on your tracks!

About BIT-2
BIT stands for Back In Time… and now we move to time travel level 2!
Instead of combining the best of analogue modeling with hybrid synthesis in which you can see with the other Rob Papen synthesizers, BIT-2’s main focus is on analogue Modelled Synthesis.

The idea behind BIT-2 is that the classic analogue type of synthesis has its own charm and simply has not yet been covered in this form by the Rob Papen brand.
Although BIT-2 has no patch cables, it is modular by all means! The Modulation Matrix is used for the patching, however also included is the smart ‘advanced’ panel below the Oscillators. With these advanced features (accessed by switching the ADV switch), you can quickly make several connections such as LFO and Envelope to the Oscillator parameters.

New additions to BIT-2 can be found in its Oscillators. Here you will find SuperSaw and SuperSquare waves, which are multiple Oscillators generated inside Oscillator 1 and/or 2. They give even more flexibility in creating sounds.
Kept from the previous version is the option to modulate Oscillator 2 by Oscillator 1 in several ways which expands the sound palette massively with Phase Modulation, Frequency Modulation, and Ring Modulation!

The two top-notch analogue modeled Filters are expanded in BIT-2 with new modes further enhancing its capabilities for sound shaping.

New inside BIT-2’s arpeggiator/sequencer is the option to dynamically change the start step and end step number, resulting in interesting real-time changing patterns! Another newly added feature is the ‘Magic’ parameter that allows you to alter the played arpeggiator/sequencer in a musical manner. The arpeggiator/sequencer can also work as a modulator and includes an additional free row that you can use to modulate other parts of BIT-2 by using the Modulation Matrix.

The AMP section of BIT-2 has been expanded with multiple distortion options and all are at a per ‘voice’ level, avoiding ugly sounds if you play chords.
An addition of a ‘Ribbon Controller’ found in the lowest section of BIT-2’s GUI allows you to change multiple parameters in a dynamic way using your mouse or an external MIDI controller.

Finally, the finishing touch for BIT-2 is of course the FX section. Some superb-sounding FX have been added and improved. Our top-notch Reverb is also included inside BIT-2 which means you won’t have to go outboard for adding reverb.
As mentioned earlier BIT stands for ‘Back In Time’ however it can also mean ‘Be Inspired Today’ whilst using our Analogue Modelled Synthesizer V2!

Please watch the introduction video and sound examples here

About BLUE-III
When it was first released in 2005 ‘BLUE’ already reflected Rob Papen’s cutting-edge,
creative, and — most importantly — musical approach toward developing virtual synthesizers.
Rob Papen himself called it ‘Cross-fusion synthesis’ because it covered both Subtractive and FM synthesis in one creative concept.

With its successor BLUE-II, the ‘Cross-fusion synthesis’ was also expanded with a creative range of samples and the highly versatile XY pad. The concept for BLUE-III still remains true to that ethos with even more added sound dimensions and features to its extended name.
Firstly adding our own take on ‘Karplus Strong String Model Synthesis’, new ‘Waveforms’, new ‘Filter types’, a new range of creative ‘built-in Samples’, and lastly the option for you as a user to load up to 6 samples inside each Preset.

BLUE-III’s GUI has received an overhaul including many different sizes, the XY pad is now always on the front panel. The audio engine has received DNA from our virtual analog synthesizer B.I.T. resulting in unsurpassed audio quality.Lastly, of course, this amazing instrument is shipped with 5000+ Presets by Rob himself and well-known industry sound designers.

BLUE-III is a phenomenally powerful virtual instrument to behold and represents an amazing journey into ‘Cross-fusion synthesis’!

Rob Papen 'The 4 Element Synth'

Rob Papen Book & Video ' The 4 Element Synth '.

The first release of ‘The 4 Element Synth’ book had 4 DVDs and in today’s world, even DVD players are becoming rare! The re-release is now handled by a publisher and the 10 hours of video content is stored in the cloud and if you click here you can see a screenshot of how well the video content is organized according to the book and its chapters and sections.

The main reason why Rob Papen selected a publisher is that this way the book gets potentially a wider audience. After all, this book is a textbook and perfect for learning and understanding subtractive synthesis. It is mainly for the novice, intermediate... but if you are a real pro, you know that there is always something new to learn.

  • Predator-4ES
In the book, Rob Papen uses hardware synthesizers but also the Predator plug-in. This plug-in is perfect for learning subtractive synthesis. So we have also released a study version of Predator called Predator-4ES. It contains all the presets used in the book/videos and even the original introduction bank. Predator-4ES is perfect for studying alongside the book, discovering, and playing around. The limitations of the plugin are that you need to use it in your music host program as there is no stand-alone version and that there is no saving preset option. So if you have purchased the book, feel free to download this study synthesizer from the homepage.

  • Extras
There is also an extras page here, which allows you to open or download
‘The 4 Element Synth’ as PDF, the layout of the Synthesizer.com System-22 used in the videos, Predator-2 Presets and, 2 extra videos.

How to get hold of the re-released ‘The 4 Element Synth’ book?
  • It is available here and now comes in 3 formats! Hardback, Paperback, and eBook!

  • Music schools that would like to acquire multiple copies of the book, please check here.

Did you know this?

If you own SubBoomBass-2 you can still install the first version of SubBoomBass?
Or that you still can install Predator 1.6, and Predator 2.0 if you own Predator-3?
Or BLUE, BLUE-II, in case you own BLUE-III?

Yes, you can!

We make sure that earlier versions of our products are still available because many producers would have used these versions in their older songs.

So the older products are always available on the download page. So for example, if you log in to 'My Products' and open the download page for Predator-3, you can scroll down, and you will also find the older versions available for download . Note that during installation, always use the serial listed, and in this example case the serial of Predator-3.

Nova re-release!

In April 1982 Nova went number 1 in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg with our instrumental synthesizer track Aurora.

Nova was formed by Peter Kommers, Ruud van Es, and Rob Papen.

Since it was 40 years ago, Rob Papen re-created this track using the plugins and played the result during the YouTube Live Stream which can be watched here.

As the cherry on the cake, the Cubase song can be downloaded including the plugin presets used. Of course, you need to own the plugins used -Rob Papen- plugins B.I.T., Predator-3, and Punch-2 to play the track. Inside the info section below the YouTube stream video, you can find the information/downloads.

About NOVA told by Rob Papen on the YouTube 'Muzikxpress' you can watch here

The story behind NOVA
Peter Kommers and Ruud van Es started to work together as Peru in 1979. Both shared an interest in electronic music and synthesizers.Following their acquaintance with Rob Papen at a Dutch Fanclub event of German electronic musician Klaus Schulze in 1980, Peru continued as a trio.As their first album Macchu Picchu gained some airplay, they got in contact with Willem van Kooten and decided to form another group next to Peru: Nova. One of Nova’s first tracks was Aurora, a song based on the Peru track Sons Of Dawn and released on single in Spring 1982, which became a number 1-hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. The trio worked with producer Chris Pilgram on their album debut Terranova, released in Autumn 1982 and climbed to #7 in the Dutch album charts in July 1982.In 1983 their second album Quo Vadis hit the stores, but also marked the end for Nova. From then on, Peter Kommers, Ruud van Es en Rob Papen continued as Peru.
