Dear friends and neighbors:
With Spring so close we can taste it, there seems to be so much pent-up energy around so of course the logical way to release some of this energy in a constructive and positive way is to rally with your neighbors!  Hope you can join for all our some!
RALLY TO PROTECT OUR WATERFRONT – FRIDAY 4/20 AT 6PM
Please join me, your neighbors and Mayor Bhalla tomorrow night at Maxwell Place Park at 6pm to show your support for Protecting Our Waterfront from NYWW’s proposed maintenance, refueling and storage operations.
  • Did you know that at least 2 federally endangered species of sturgeon and several state-threatened birds, like the osprey, were identified at the former Union Dry Dock property & would be threatened by expanded industrial use at the site?
  • Did you know there are real, documented concerns about legacy contamination from Union Dry Dock that are not being addressed and the potential for the new, more intense uses could exacerbate the situation?
  • Did you know that 3 months ago, hundreds of gallons of oil spilled into the Hudson River meant for NYWW in Weehawken?
This is NOT a NIMBY situation.  Nor is it about trying to put NYWW out of business and lose ferry service.  This is about ensuring that Hoboken’s interests are front and center in the discussion as alternatives are considered.
If you can’t make it, call (609.292.6000) or tweet (@govmurphy) Governor Murphy and implore him to “Protect Our Environment”, “Keep Children Safe”, and “Choose People Over Profits”.  I have a commitment at 7pm so will not be able to stay for the entire rally, but will remain there in spirit!

RALLY TO END GUN VIOLENCE – FRIDAY 4/20 FROM 4-5
Please join the Hudson County Chapter of Students Demand Action for a student-organized protest rally to "end gun violence" at Hoboken City Hall. The rally has been scheduled to coincide with the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre.  Children’s voices are often the loudest.

RALLY (KIND OF) TO CLEAN UP HOBOKEN – SATURDAY 4/21 FROM 10-2
Come join 600 Hoboken neighbors for a city-wide day of service dedicated to cleaning up our parks and public spaces.  If interested and you have not yet signed up, it is not too late.  Email Quanika Stover tomorrow at qstover@hobokennj.gov.  Tell her I sent you.  There are many different locations, but if you are interested in helping out along the northern waterfront, Hoboken Residents for a Public Waterfront will be leading the effort at Maxwell Park and the beach.  I will be at the inlet just west of the Hudson Tea and along the Weehawken Cove.  They are asking people to sign in at Church Square Park beginning at 930 am, but we will have gloves and materials so feel free to come by.   Children are welcome!  More hands are better!

MORNING RALLY TO SPREAD THE WORD – FRIDAY 4/20 FROM 7-840
If you are an early riser, and have always wanted to hand out flyers to unsuspecting people waiting in line, tomorrow is your chance!  Join several of us at Turning Point at 14th and Sinatra at 7am to grab a cup of coffee and then head out to the Hoboken North Ferry Terminal to help spread the word about the Friday Night Rally!  Let me know if you are interested in joining!

I have said this before, but I want to emphasize this again.  I am committed to completing our waterfront – whether it takes one day or five years (or longer).  I am also completely committed to do what it takes to make sure we maintain and hopefully expand (not shrink) reliable sources of transportation.  I am not opposed to having a working waterfront, but would like it to compliment our existing uses.  And would be happy to have NYWW at Lackawanna terminal.  We are still at a point where it is important to make our voices heard about what is important to Hoboken.  If we don’t advocate for ourselves, then others will make decisions for us.
Please feel free to email me or call me at 201/208-1674 if you have any questions of comments or want to discuss any of this.  Hope to see you rally!
