Hi friends,
One of the special things about living in community is that there is always a variety of events and activities that form the fabric of the our lives month to month, year to year. Read below to learn about the Pony Crew and a recent event celebrating Mothers and families, just two examples of recent happenings on The Farm.

I’ve just returned home from a pilgrimage to the Southwest. The rawness of the Earth...

the intense colors of the rock...

to walk among the sacred places of ancient peoples, to be present to the timelessness of existence.

The work of wind and water, uncovering the footprints of dinosaurs from millions and millions of years before.
To realize my small place in this human life among the mystery.
At birth we each walk through a door to reach our time's civilization. We learn that civilizations come and go just like waves on the ocean.
Those of us who understand this can embrace our roles as beacons of peace, our path in this lifetime. We remain grateful for the beauty all around us, in spite of the difficult changes and challenges we see.

The spiral. The journey. May our lives be like the falling cascade of a waterwheel, each of us bringing our strength and power to move the wheel forward as we return to the river.
Namaste,
Douglas and Deborah

A Day for Mothers and Midwives

This year‘s picnic featured a bouncy house for the children.
Every year, the first Saturday in May, rain or shine, Community Birth and Wellness hosts a meet and greet picnic for current and postpartum clients of all The Farm Midwives, along with their friends and family, plus community birth and wellness workers. A truly joyous occasion!
The vibes are great and it warms the heart to see the expectant mothers plus people with new babies, and children who were born on The Farm in recent years, all hanging out and connecting.
The Pony Crew Reborn!

The Pony Crew has a long history in the community, going back to our earliest days. (photo by Clifford Chappel)

Today, a new wave of young 'ins are discovering just how valuable that experience can be, mentored by mothers and grandmothers with horse wisdom and knowledge. Caring for a pony or horse teaches responsibility, confidence, and many skills that will be of great benefit later in life. The New Pony Crew is playing an active part in the community, hosting fundraising events that bring people together for food and shared fun.

Our dome is the perfect venue for large numbers of us to gather, delight in old movies like The Princess Bride, and much on delicious home made pizza (cheese or vegan), as is happening on Friday nights. Check them out on Facebook. Thank you Bestival (Foods) and Louie Kachinsky for cooking delicious fun!

Join us for Heart of Harvest, a Dances of Universal Peace Weekend. The Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) are a spiritual practice employing evocative movements and singing sacred phrases and poetry from the world's spiritual traditions.
The steps are simple and easy to learn, with everyone in a circle, sometimes moving in one direction or the other, at other times with a partner, all while chanting and singing together.
As we dance and sing in unison, the vibrations from our voices and musical instruments become as one. There is an uplifting energy present that connects our hearts and the essence within us.
It is a very powerful spiritual experience and a wonderful way to create a heart connection and build a sense of community.
Our 8th dance weekend here on The Farm will be in the fall, when temperatures in Tennessee are perfect!!

In these challenging times, our dances are embodied prayers. Reap the Harvest of the Heart!
