French BioBeach Is Welcoming The Visit Of Tara Oceans
The Schooner Tara will stop in San Diego at the end of October 2011; the duration of its visit will be approximately two weeks. This is an opportunity for the San Diego community to join us and learn about Tara and its mission.
French BioBeach, and UK Sailmaker, local partners, will be coordinating the events (open house, scientific symposium, press conferences, out-reaches to the marine and education communities) during Tara’s stop-over in San Diego. The importance of Science and Marine research is an integral part of the San Diego community. We expect the Schooner Tara sailing expedition to generate a lot of interest among the general public and research Scientists.

Tara Oceans Is Studying The Marine Life and The Effect Of Climate Change
Tara Oceans sails under the auspices of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Tara is a floating research platform, co-directed by Dr. Eric Karsenti (EMBL) and Etienne Bourgois (Agnes b). Its principal objectives are to enable scientists to study little-known aspects of ocean ecosystems including planktonic life, and the effect of climate change on this critical unicellular base to the marine food chain. Also studied are the effects of climate change on coral reefs and the marine life dependent upon them. The urgency of understanding and coping with climate change makes this an extraordinarily important voyage to add to earlier understandings of the origins of ocean life so as to better preserve the diversity of its future.

A Three - Year Journey Around The World
Tara Oceans departed in September 2009 from Lorient, France, and is scheduled to return to Europe in March 2012. San Diego is one of 50 stops on this incredible voyage of more than 71,000 miles, in the Arctic, Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans, and many seas. The expedition is studying biodiversity and climate, ocean relations, functioning of marine ecosystems, and life’s origin and evolution. On the boat is an international team of 14 people, including 1 captain, 5 crew members and 6 scientists, a journalist and sometimes an artist. Twenty-one laboratories in 10 countries are participating in the research.

We invite you to help French BioBeach with a corporate contribution. We are seeking to raise at least $30,000 before October by soliciting Event Sponsorships. Event Sponsors will be invited to attend the events, but it is not required. Event Sponsors will be offered newsletter and program recognition, so it is a marketing opportunity as well.
French BioBeach is not a 501(c)3 charitable organization yet. Therefore, contributions or gifts are not yet tax deductible as charitable contributions. However, they may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses. Please consult your tax preparer regarding these deductions.
Nonetheless, as French Bio Beach was recently incorporated as a Non-Profit in the state of California, we have applied for the 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. If granted before the end of 2011, all donations made to French Bio Beach during this fiscal year will then be retroactively tax deductible.
