Human Factor - Endless Prototyping, Ars Electronica

DRIVE Volkswagen Group Forum - Berlin, DE
01/07/2016 - 27/08/2016

Under the title "Human Factor – Endless Prototyping", Ars Electronica organises its fifth exhibition at the DRIVE Volkswagen Group Forum in Berlin. About 50 international artists explore the conflict between the opportunities and risks of man-made progress.

"Human Factor" features artworks dealing with the issues and challenges related to the digital revolution – with a focus on the human factor in an engineered environment. International artists reflect on the current situation to show individual approaches using prototypes depicting the interface between art and science. Their aim is to address contemporary uncertainties and to anticipate future insecurities.

AGRIENANUH Featured on the Cover of A. Vesalius Magazine

The A. Vesalius Magazine, a publication by ALFAGEN VZW (the alumni of the Faculty of Medicine KU Leuven), has recently been updated. Along with the new design, a revolutionary cover image was selected. The chosen image is originally a study for the sculpture AGRIEBORZ (2009-2010). Though imaginary, the image seems to retain some familiarity due to its visual connection to human organs, muscles, nerves, etc. The medical manuals of Andreas Vesalius proved to be an important source of inspiration for this design.

LAPIRSUB Print at Antwerp University

Gebouw Z, Campus Groenenborger - Antwerp, BE

Nick Ervinck was invited to create a wall print at the new building of the science and engineering faculty in Antwerp, designed by DMT architects. The artist designed a fascinating cyborg figure by combining fragmentary elements of the past with a futuristic imagery. This impressive design transforms the lobby space into a place of inspiration and creativity.

REWOTFIU, 2009-2016

When architecture and sculpting meet, sculptures inside sculptures come about that proceed manual sculpting. REWOTFIU is a good example of this evolution. Inspired by the aesthetics of so-called blob architecture, as well as by the oriental and occidental tradition and the Chinese rock gardens, Nick Ervinck constructed a contemporary, digitalized rock sculpture that incorporates the architectural volume as a parasitic creature. REWOTFIU was recently on view at Vision London, in collaboration with Recticel.

Hagar Peeters Wins FINUDIM Award

The Fintro Literature Award is one of the most prestigious literary awards for books written in Dutch. This year, the Prize of the Expert Jury is awarded to Hagar Peeters for her novel Malva. Along with this prize, she wins 25.000 euro and a sculpture designed by Nick Ervinck.

The sculpture innovatively combines tradtiion and innovation. Inspired by a traditional quill or feather pen, Nick Ervinck created a dynamic design that exudes movement and elegance.

SODNOTTOB, 2015-2016

At the request of Kiwanis Club Torhout, Nick Ervinck designed a new series of champagne caps. The dynamic prints exude strength and movement, symbolising a vital energy. At the same time, there is also a critical social dimension to the prints: it encourages both young and old to collect these champagne caps. Since its invention, champagne caps have always been a collector’s item. It is therefore an honour for Nick Ervinck to once again create a unique design that will be an interesting addition to each collection.
